this is an interesting article; http://time.com/4447...an-parents-law/ and its funny i used to read few separate stories in italy relation plant based diet obsession and health and lots of suffering for the babies and newly growing. i know i know, all this stuff can be opposite based on studies on someone whose cells are old and fat, but are people that stupid to do it to their newly developing growths? it doesnt make sense sorry, read article, good stuff

This makes about as much sense as legislating which bathroom people use. Either make the law evenhandedly punish parents who malnourish their children, regardless of the particular diet, or leave it alone.

From the original Reuter's article:

"If even only one child ends up in a hospital because of this behavior, I feel we have to protect them all," said Savino.

I'm not a libertarian, but damn, talk about government overreach...

actually i wasnt concerned with the politics on this one as much as the fact plant based diets can kill babies and children. cant believe vegetarians cant figure it out 20 years in research later that humans have evolved only because we didnt eat grass like devolved monkeys still do.

I don't think there are any vegans raising their babys on a diet of grass. If so, they certainly deserve punishment ;)

I agree with Steve and I don't think such a law pertaining to a specific diet makes any sense scientifically or even ethically. Every developed country in the world has a law punishing child neglect and abuse. Malnourishment is simply a form of child neglect and as such already a criminal offense.

It is perfectly possible to raise a child on a vegan diet, as long as the parents are scientifically well-informed about nutrition and make sure the child receives the proper plant-based foods and supplements. I wouldn't recomment anyone to do so, but I see no reason why it would necesarrily be harmful.

Certainly not any more harmful than raising a child on the all-too-ususal diet of processed junk food...
