Hello to everyone,
my sister and her 2 year old daughter have recently discovered that they carry a Extended-spectrum beta-lactamases E Coli in their gut (aso called 3MRGN). Do you know of any - maybe experimential - therapy? For example, the antibiogramm says that gentamicine would be an option. But as you might know because of the severe ototoxic potential the doctors suggested not to take it and just "live with it". My sister is especially in fear of the possible complications in case of a sudden operation etc.
I heard of fecal transplantation but do not know if such a huge change in the microbiome could cause side effects we still don't know about.
Any suggestions/speculations would be highly appreciated.
Thank you very much beforehand!
I might want to add that the group that the e coli is sensitive to is: Carbapenem
