Hi y'all

So after doing some reading and thinking long and hard about it. i decided to try a 72 hour water fast... i had done some intermittent fasting in the last few weeks but only about 4 or 5 days in 3 weeks. so im quite a newbie!
But this attempt seemed to be a disaster as I had a bad headache the whole day yesterday, muscle tension around back and neck and fatigue
I broke the fast with breakfast this morning after 36 hours

Anyone know what was hapening? is it a herxheimer reaction?
I would say my diet is generally very good with whole foods and lots of veg, min caffeine,  hardly drink alcohol and smoke maybe around 4 rolled cigarettes per week.  Yoga everyday and swimming 2- 3 times per week sauna etc.  so i couldnt imagine there being a hell of alot of toxins in my system! but i could be wrong.  I was feeling quite healthy last week and now i feel like i have been hit by a train :/

I was really keen to see if i could get any health benefits from this.. im keen to try it again - but perhaps i need to prepare better or do something differently !

Advice would be greatly appreciated!

Kaleido, I have no specific explanations for your headache but my advise is to try again, this time with a more modest target, let's say 24 or 36 hours. It is strange that your body is reacting like that since such a short fast is more of a prolonged intermittent fasting or delayed meal. But sometimes it is so, the first time means nothing, you have to persevere. If after a few attempts the headache persists, then you'll have to analyze other potential confounding factors, like medicine you usually take, some other deprivation if it exists, you may try in more favourable circumstances like warm weather and an holiday so you can sleep when teh body requires... Simple things which can make the transition easier. Usual symptoms in water fasts are tiredness, sleepiness, hunger, mental letargia.
