Hello.

Is it possible to just test one bloodwork parameter? The usual way is to go to a doctor, however, if one wants to only test one bloodwork parameter perhaps it would be

cheaper to do it online. For example, how much would it cost to just test b12 levels? Bloodwork paremeter would be things like vitamin b12 levels, homocystein levels, magnesium levels etc.

Thanks for input.

I've used these guys in the past, I'm sure there are plenty of others.

I've used Life Extension and WalkInLab. There are a few others that are probably about the same. Getting my own tests are cheaper than my doctor because I don't have any "wellness" insurance, so blood tests are only covered if I have symptoms that require blood tests. If I just want to see if anything is out of line, or I want to optimize anything, it's not covered.

WalkInlab has a B12 test for $32, or $27.20 with coupon NEWYEAR. Life Extension has B12 included various panels, like the B12 status panel for $68, and they usually have a sale on blood tests around April-June. When there's a sale, you can sort of "stock up" on blood tests and use them any time over the following 6 months, if there's something you know you want to check on periodically.

B12 EUR 14,57, homocysteine 20,98, whole blood Mg 2,68 at a local lab. Usually I get as many through my GP with a referral to get the blood draw done at the lab. Then I add and pay things out of my pocket which my GP wouldn't.

I've tried Life Extension, Walk-in Lab, DirectLabs, and DiscountedLabs for one-off tests, and have been happy with them all. Depending on your insurance, they could even be cheaper on full panels.

I noticed I was getting gouged by pricing differences between providers, so I made a (very-incomplete) comparison site. Here's the pages for the tests you mentioned: B12, homocysteine, magnesium (RBC, serum). Feel free to let me know if there's any others you're interested in comparing, it gives me a reason to not be lazy about improving the site :)

The Life Extension sale that ta5 mentioned is usually really good, ~30-50% off from what I recall. And both Walk-in Lab and DirectLabs usually have those 15-20% coupons every 1-2 months.

I take it this is in Austria? Those prices are amazing. Is the doctor referral required? Or could you just go directly to the lab and order out-of-pocket?

It's in close by town in Austria. One can get it directly without referral. But then one pays for the blood draw too.
