I saw an ad on FB for this CRISPR kit. Anyone know how to turn on telomerase? heh

Hmmm, so could this be used on a human? Could someone use it to insert a longevity gene?

Unlikely. If it does we don't know what genes we would want to manipulate. Elizabeth Parish did something similar with hers but I wouldn't know which one or how. That's not to say one couldn't learn. Her experiment so far hasn't really shown much in terms of results. I would go for telomerase if I were to try anything.

So, one would have to have a sample of the gene synthesised? If someone wanted that gene removed? You do have to combine it with the kit for work in a human correct?

How would one attach the genes to a retrovirus for human injection? (even if someone could make a longevity change to the human genome)

The problem is that DNA is like a computer program composed of thousands of individual sub-computers each interacting with each other. They are all working together to keep not only the machinery of their cabin (the cell) going but also the overall ship (the human body). I wouldn't be confident enough (without tremendous study and research) to just slap an extra telomerase gene onto my DNA. It could potentially improve health or it could cause problems or side effects.

Obviously some of you need to catch up to 2017. CRISPR is how you edit genomes these days. Read up on it.
