I'm really at a loss. These symptoms have been going on and off for many, many years but in the past couple of months not only has it remained consistent but the symptoms are getting worse to the point of causing me a lot of concern.

Symptoms include: lack of emotions, lack of ambition/motivation, no creativity/divergent thinking, brain fog/hazey thinking, delusional thinking, inability to focus on anything for more than a few moments, headaches, apathetic about existence and the future, excessive suicidal ideation, little to no pleasure from almost every activity.

Obviously this describes the symptoms of depression. But these particular set of symptoms have persisted now for months and it makes me question my history of drug/supplement use, because I can't figure out what else could be causing this to persist for this long. I have been battling depression for about 12 years or so, but I can't recall a time where it was this bad, for this long.

Anyone else experience this? What can be done? Setting aside the usual answers like exercise, proper diet and sleep, therapy, etc...I do it all.

I'm in the exact same boat as you, I'm quite confident the issues are caused by proinflammatory cytokines, so cutting out inflammation would be a start - that's easier said than done though, to do effectively at least, and I don't possess the knowledge to tell you which drug is best for that.

Once inflammation is held at bay, you need to repair the damage - again, I haven't tried this, but Semax looks quite promising - I'm planning on stacking that with MrHappy's Uridine stack and Memantine (at night).

Best of luck!

P.S. If you haven't already, have a gazillion blood tests to see if it's a hormonal issue, and I'd also schedule an advanced blood test to test for things like TNF-alpha with an immunologist.

The description does sound like depression, but it could be a gazillion of things, including medical like hypothyroidism, low testosterone, chronic infection/inflammation, food intolerance, etc. It's a long journey to figure it out. All the best.

So what is your "history of drug/supplement use" that you question? I'm not sure but it seems that what you're implying is that it might be something you are taking, in your attempt to treat depression and anhedonia, which is actually making it worse. I think that's very possible. In my own experience, I've tried using melatonin to indirectly "treat" depression by improving my sleep pattern. Although it seems to have helped with sleep issues, I have also learned to associate taking melatonin with worsening depression and lethargy. Recently I decided to try taking Ginkgo at 400mg 2X daily and I am very surprised by a positive response since I've taken it in the past at the recommended dose of 120mg 2X day and regarded it as ineffective or neutral. I've also stopped taking algal DHA which I took for 6 months and switched to high EPA Omega-3 supplement ...and I don't really know but it seems to be at lest "in conjunction with improvement of anhedonia and depression. Oddly, as much as I believe in supplementing magnesium ...I ran out about a month ago and I feel much better now than I did while I was taking it...again I don't know but I wonder if magnesium's inhibitory effect on NMDA could be a factor in symptoms of anhedonia...not at all to suggest that magnesium should be avoided but rather it serves as one example of possibly working against your goals without knowing it...perhaps I already get more than enough magnesium from my particular diet and just adding a modest supplemental amount had a specific and idiosyncratic negative impact on my mental energy...

You may have caught the same neurological virus as I did, which triggered these sort of symptoms in me. See my website about the virus: https://chronicsoret...t.wordpress.com
