Hmm... Bupropion is usually VERY rough on anxiety - unless you have ADHD, it's almost never anxiolytic - quite the opposite.

Could you not consider combining it with something like DULOXETINE instead? That's a more tried and true combo, and Duloxetine is generally considered more powerful towards General Anxiety, as it's an SNRI.

no i dont want serotonin.

buspar decreases serotonin . the manufacturer of Buspar says in the packaging that excess serotonin is the cause of anxiety.

http://stahlonline.c...le=Therapeutics

''How the Drug Works

  • Binds to serotonin type 1A receptors
  • Partial agonist actions postsynaptically may theoretically diminish serotonergic activity and contribute to anxiolytic actions
  • Partial agonist actions at presynaptic somatodendritic serotonin autoreceptors may theoretically enhance serotonergic activity and contribute to antidepressant actions''

wellbutrin

  • Boosts neurotransmitters norepinephrine/noradrenaline and dopamine

dopamine is anxylotic

Noradrenaline (norepinephrine) helps you handle stress better.

this is just what I belive not facts. ;)

Your simplifying WAY too much here... if norepinephrine and dopamine in particular are anxiolytic, then why does Amphetamine and Methylphenidate cause VERY severe anxiety? I've had a panic-attack myself, induced by Methylphenidate - this is one of the reasons why I'm difficult to treat for ADHD - I respond with anxiety from the most common drugs which treat the disorder.

This is not an uncommon response at all - that's why many are on a stimulant AND a anxiolytic, often.

I'm telling you this, because you need to understand, that Bupropion could be DANGEROUS to you - it's far better that you simply try Buspirone on its own first.

I'm sorry about the derail but I've gotta ask.  Have you found something that does work for your adhd that doesn't cause anxiety?

I find taking nortriptyline and lexapro with my adderall make the stimulant tolerable and work better while treating anxiety and depression myself.  I'm curious what if anything helps you.

Okay, back on topic.  I've taken both, but not at the same time.  I found buspar did nothing for me.  Wellbutrin combined with adderall turned me into a monster and I didn't even know it until I finally broke and had a nervous breakdown that took med changes and tweaks and more than year to recover from.

Anxious about the stuff that can stress me, which is complicated and personal. I took Wellbutrin for anhedonia not regular depression, it wasn't effective for that. What I can tell you is had and have close to no anxiety in my everyday life, except for the time I was on Wellbutrin.

I don't know much about anxiety treatments because it's not what I need at all, but I suggest you listen to others if they know better than you.

Sort of.

Adding Guanfacine 2 mg to 25 mg Methylphenidate cancels out anxiogenic side-effects and harmonises the other side-effects of both compounds - however, this is not necessarily the ideal combo - because I never had time to test it out correctly. It could also be that a combo of racemic Amphetamine and Guanfacine is better, as well.

Atomoxetine (strattera) also treats my ADHD and SCT -symptoms without causing anxiety - in fact, I'd say it's anxiolytic! HOWever... it's also very often highly sedating, meaning that only very rarely does it improve motivation, and actually get me to complete tasks. It also, in higher doses, causes DEPRESSION in me. These tradeoffs are NOT worth it, just because it doesn't cause anxiety.

Hence, I'm a complex case, demanding no doubt multi-agent treatment to reach an optimum state of function.

And back on topic:

Although I myself did not experience any anxiety while on Bupropion, I did experience another enhancement of irrational emotion - ANGER!
I became very aggressive, and had great difficulties in controlling my emotions, whenever something unforeseen happened. It was quite the personality-change, actually, and some of the ways I was thinking back then are generally scary to me now.

As such, this is how I would describe the potential negative effects of these substances:

Bupropion: causes anger

Methylphenidate: causes fear

Amphetamine: causes fear

Atomoxetine: causes sadness

Now, some of my responses are fully in line with the majority opinion on these drugs - others are not - please remember that I have multiple neurological abnormalities, and these responses are probably not entirely indicative of the majority prescribed these drugs.

You're asking the wrong questions. By trying to figure out on your own the working mechanism on each drugs, it's just going to put you into a loophole where you're not sure what you really need and you will keep getting nothing done. I mean what are your symptoms, anxiety and depression? Those are very common, maybe you have it worse than others but you can easily find people that had the same thing as you, and just copy the treatments that worked for them.

The same things don't seem to work for everyone though

Yes I agree and I know. Doing research and copying what worked for most people, that has the most chances of working is the solution.
