I have a critical situation involving CDP Choline (Citicoline) that I need help with.  There are so many experts on this forum that you guys seem like my only hope!  I will try to make a very long story short.  When I was a teenager, I was diagnosed with an imbalance of the parasympathetic & sympathetic nervous systems called "Dysautonomia."  Once tipped one way or the other, my nervous system does not rebalance by itself.  From my birth in 1986, I used to be super-ultra sensitive to medications.  In 2005, I discovered that Ashwagandha would temporarily cure the sensitivity to meds & herbs (for 24 hours when taken daily), and Chamomile would do the opposite and would temporarily increase those sensitivities.  Once Ashwagandha was out of my system, all the sensitivities returned and life went on as normal.

In Fall of 2009, I took CDP Choline (Citicoline) for only a few weeks, and it down-regulated SOMETHING that has caused long-lasting changes ever since.  First, the sensitivities to meds & herbs were gone ever since (even after 8 years later) and some supplements and herbs have the opposite effects than they are supposed to.  Second, my face has been bloodshot red ever since, and my eyes are bloodshot as well.  Third, there is a massive amount of fatigue and pain, and it's gotten so bad that I've missed months of work.  There are several other effects such as visual changes in my right retina that are related as well.  It almost feels like too much choline or acetylcholine is in my system 24/7.

My question is this...  Assuming the batch wasn't toxic (which I'm certain it wasn't), and understanding that due to my condition, my nervous system does not regulate itself, what could CDP Choline (Citicoline) have down-regulated (or up-regulated)?

Honestly, at this point, your best bet is to consult a doctor and have a thourough and complete check-up and blood analysis. There is really not much that can be related to cdp-choline unless your batch was toxic or something like that. In fact i would get that batch analysed as well.

I agree with BlueCloud. There is no way of knowing for sure that the symptoms you describe were caused by citicoline. Things can happen for no obvious reason and this could have occurred while you just happened to be taking citicoline.  There's no way to be sure without a control.  What's more, there's no likely mechanism for citicoline to cause such a bizarre effect; the things it contains - choline and cytidine - are commonly found in foods.  https://en.wikipedia...iki/Citicoline Of course this doesn't mean it can't be the citicoline, but if it is it's highly idiosyncratic and therefore not likely to be covered by our base of knowledge on it.  If you're sure your citicoline was uncontaminated and were taking it in recommended dosages, I would look first for other explanations.  Either way though, citicoline or not, you have a health problem and to consult a doctor is sound advice.

Kinesis, I have consulted many doctors and they do not know.  I shouldn't have said Citicoline, because looking back I know I was using Choline Bitartrate around the same time in Fall 2009, and it is much more likely that the Choline Bitartrate usage caused this.  I unfortunately was trying to reverse this imbalance in March of this year (2017) and used Choline Bitartrate again (different brand), and it continued to make my problem 100x's worse as it did originally.  I'm very certain the supplement was not poisonous.  My symptoms didn't match up to that type of thing.  The key is that we know I have a nervous system that doesn't rebalance itself due to my Dysuatonomia/POTS Syndrome, and I don't know what would counteract the imbalance that the Choline Bitartrate usage caused.  I'm confident something is out there over the counter that would rebalance the effects that the Choline Bitartrate usage has caused.  It DOWN-regulated something.

Any ideas on what I could try?  I was born with an autonomic nervous system imbalance.  Ever since using Choline supplements (Choline Bitartrate, CDP-Choline, and/or Alpha GPC) intermittently, I have barely been able to walk and breathe.
