Longvida (liposome)? Meriva (phytosome)? Bio-Curcumin? Turmeric? Something else?

Longvida (liposome)? Meriva (phytosome)? Bio-Curcumin? Turmeric? Something else?

I think only Longvida have studies that proven that it crosses the blood-brain barrier, albeit in rats, IIRC. Therefore, if you want a version that is most probably beneficial to the brain, choose this one.

The others, Theracurmin, Meriva, etc may also enter the brain but there were no studies the last time I checked. However, they do have better bioavailability compared to plain curcumin and definitely plain turmeric. I think these forms are better suited for systemic needs, like overall inflammation and the likes.

There’s a newer form that combines whey protein and curcumin, called Ultracur that is good on paper. That’s the one I’m currently taking alongside Longvida and Meriva at the moment.

Plain curcumin is too un-bioavailable to have much systemic effect. However, it is hypothesized that this meant that it will retain better in the gut so if you want benefits for the guts, then you should “paint” your intestines with cheaper plain curcumin.

Turmeric is even worse in terms of bioavailability. However, it is said that the cooking, typically in some Indian recipes with certain oils, may increase curcuminoid bioavailability. However again, I doubt it’d ever match those aforementioned above. Plus, those above have studies backing their bioavailability. But, it is plausible that the benefits from turmeric may also be from some other form of turmeric compounds rather than just curcuminoids. Therefore, I take a cheap capsulated version from Swanson along with those above.

I agree; to get the best of both worlds I take a cheap turmeric supp with lunch and an enhanced absorption curcumin formula with dinner.  I like Life Extension's Super Bio-Curcumin (enhanced absorption achieved through micronization), thought the enhanced absorption "C3" piperine formulas have plenty of good research behind them.

Are usually stay away from chain brands but vitaminshoppe actually has a lot of good products. For example their Ubiquinol is Kaneka QH which is the same as Jarrow but much cheaper. I use their triple strength Turmeric with Curcumin it’s 95% curcuminoids and has 5mg Bioperine (95% Piperine Alkaloids)

I normally take UltraCUR (whey attached), but also liposomal curcumin when I'm taking it with liposomal resveratrol for my weekly two day R-C over-dosing protocol. Lipo definitely seems legit. Also I agree, if there's a microbiome connection, some ordinary Tumeric might be worth it too.

I take Swanson's Turmeric with Black Pepper and have found that it works best with a fish oil capsule. I take 3 Turmeric, 3 Chinese Skullcap and 2 EPA/DHA caps for my inflammation. That allows me to walk again.  :-D

Also, I recently discovered that doubling that dosage, with all 3, is a very nice but not crazy, mood enhancer. I suddenly find myself smiling and/or singing and dancing. So whether or not it crosses the BBB, I don't care. It reduces my inflammation, makes me feel good, and I like it.

CurcuWin is apparently water soluble and was shown to be 46x as bioavalable as standard pure curcuminoid extracts in the first of its kind human in vivo testing

J147 appeared on the news again. It is a derivative of the curcumin structure and seems to ameliorate aging brain and Alzheimer’s model of rats.
