Hi,

I need some help concerning choline please. For several years now, I have been suffering from what seems like adrenal fatigue. It started around 2013 after a major life changing event and I’ve never been the same since. While I have healed emotionally from it, I’m still dealing with the aftermath. I also suspect that years of chronic pornography and masturbation played a role as well. Thankfully I found God who helped me to stop all of that. I believe that those events are what ultimately drove me to a fatigued state in a daily basis now. I take supplements (listed below) to treat adrenal fatigue that seems to work but I still don’t feel anywhere near 100%. Last year, I stumbled across some information that suggested that adrenal fatigue was more of a neurotransmitter issue than an organ issue. In some experimentation, I decided to try CDP choline and it worked great for about 6 weeks (I think I took 3 capsules/day). I had amazing energy and clarity of mind. I suspect that what happened was my acetylcholine levels increased (along with dopamine) and helped the PVN to communicate more properly which resulted in feeling more energetic. But, I developed a side effect that I did not want...uncontrolled, unnaturally active libido. It was way higher than going through puberty. I never want to go through that again. I admit that I probably took too much tough. I seemed to recall a study of an elderly man to who took some form of choline and he had the same issue and it went away upon cessation. Anyway, I’m trying to figure out what some possible options are for taking therapeutic doses of choline, whether it be choline bitartrate, alpha GPC, or CDP choline without getting this side effect. I know many say that choline bitartrate (I started taking choline l-bitartrate) doesn’t easily cross the blood brain barrier but I have observed that even small amounts of it causes testicular aches along with vivid dreams, which I rarely have anymore. This suggests to me that it triggers testosterone production/increase. One other important thing that I noticed too. For years I took high quality fish oil without any issues. I’ve read that fish oil is cholinergic. Even after quitting CDP choline, I could take 1 capsule of fish oil and the next day have a higher than usual libido where I used to take 3 a day without issue. It seems as though I developed a sensitivity to cholinergic supplement. Anyway, I suppose my questions are:

1. Is there any way to counteract the side effect of hyperactive libido when using choline supplements?
2. If cholinergic supplements cause high libido, do I need to take something to balance out other neurotransmitters to keep it in check?
3. Any other advice?

Here’s some of what I take daily:

Choline L-Bitartrate, < 500 mg/day spread out in 2 to 3 doses
B Complex, 3/day
Vitamin C, 3/day
Vitamins D&K, 3/day
RLC Labs A-Drenal, 6/day
D-Ribose, 5 grams, 3/day
Multivitamin
Glutamine, 1/day for gut health
Probiotic, 1/day
Collagen, varies
Licorice Root, 2/day
Now Amino Complete
Started taking ALCAR, 1/day

Thanks!

I think I’m going to go in a different direction with this and need to start a new topic. May I have a moderator delete this thread? Thanks!
