Ageless Future

Title: Ageless Future
Subtitle: Wow! Look at me in my new transhuman body!

What type of future will technology bring? There seems to be two types of transhumans that are popular today: One is like Star Trek's Borg and the other, more advanced, like the Battlestar Galactica's Cylons. In "Ageless Bodies, Happy Souls", Leon R. Kass seems to be against any form of enhancements. He wants to keep the human body the way it is, natural.

I disagree with his assessments of the merger of technology and the human body. At first, the union of technological devices will look like a privative dispossession of the human physiognomy. The implants and supports of such systems are discomforting but as the technology advances, these devices will convert to the nano scale. Thus, the provocative devices will be inside the cell - nanobots.

Nanobots can redesign the cells to do specific duties, such as downloading large amount of data, enhance hearing and sight, improve dexterity of the muscles, stronger bones, and repair cells, in situ of the human physiology. Maybe even immortality of the biological structure, which is an ageless body.

Silicon chips doped with arsenic or antimony, which change its electrical characteristics, or germanium chips, used for resistance against radiation, are still inadequate compared to nanobots in performance over the long haul. Semiconductors age and brittle over time and become useless for an ageless body.

Nanobots could be manufacture in the bone marrow along with and maybe even replace red blood cells to deliver oxygen to the cells. Nanobots could prevent the oxalates from damaging cells, repair free radicals, and augment the DNA. Nanobots may perhaps change the cell from a Model-T Ford to a Maserati for speed, or a Volvo for safety.

Here are some areas that nanobots could be use for Biological Immortality:

Biological Systems and Regions

1. Cellular System: Nanobots can repair damage cells and redesign the cells for specific purposes.
2. Nervous System: Nanbots can communicate information more rapidly then the current nervous system by converting the signals from analogue to digital.
3. Endocrine System: Nanobots can control hormones for metabolism, growth, tissue function and control moods.
4. Integumentary System: Nanobots can protect the body from damage, comprising of skin, hair, nails, and sensory receptors and regulate temperature.
5. Skeletal System: Nanobots can protect the skeletal system from damage and strengthen the bones and joints.
6. Muscular System: Nanobots can strengthen the muscular system for balance, control, and coordination.
7. Mesoglea System: Nanobots can add a mesoglea between the muscles and the skin for support against damage due to impact. It is a gel that replaces fat. (Humans don't have this)
8. Mesoderm System: Nanobots can strengthen the mesoderm to help protect the organs from shock.
9. Lymphatic System: Nanobots can strengthen the lymphatic system to protect the immune system.
10. Respiratory System: Nanobots can help improve the rate of exchange of oxygen in air or water for respiration.
11. Reproductive System: Nanobots can protect and control the reproductive system and prenatal development.
12. Cardiovascular System: nanobots can move nutrients, gases, and waste to and from cells; helps fight diseases, and maintain homeostasis of the body.
13. Dynamic System: Nanobots can add a "battery" system to the body for more energy and endurance. (Humans don't have this)
14. Rejuvenate System: Nanobots check cells for damage and repair cells to their youthful nature. (Humans don't have this)
15. Urinary/Digestive System: Nanobots control waste and recycle nutriments for the body.

However, this may be to fast for some people to grasp. Start slow and build up momentum as the technology grows.

The Longevity Dividend is a program to help researchers find the solution to death. The US Department of Health and Human Services is starting a new program for Regenerative Medicine.

"Regenerative medicine offers the potential to cure countless fatal and debilitating conditions through therapies that spur in vivo regeneration and in vitro creation of healthy tissue for implantation. The next evolution of medical technology is now in sight, and has the potential to become reality in the next 20 years. Other nations have envisioned the opportunities that regenerative medicine will bring to society. Our Nation's private sector has seen the potential benefits, having spent $4 billion in hopes of making regenerative medicine a reality. Despite this tremendous private investment, there is little to show in terms of viable products, due to the lack of scientific research and coordination. The U.S. Government can provide direction and resources to the regenerative medicine effort to allow private industry to focus on product development."

Maybe there is hope…
