UC Berkeley

berkeley
Hey guys,

I know I haven't posted for a while, but I have been busy with my exams and immediately afterwards I left to Berkeley, where I'm now following the Summer Sessions.
I have been here for 4 weeks now (only 2 more to go) and it's an amazing place. Time flies by, unfortunately, I wish I could stay here for longer. The only BIG problems are:
-UC Berkeley does not have a Medical School;
-No Medical School in the Bay Area in California (or somewhere else in the USA/Canada as far as I've seen) accepts transfers from other Medical Schools, certainly not if they're international.
If anyone knows an exception to the rule, I'd be very happy to hear it!

Also, my next post is for a project I had to do for my class 'Psychology of Sleep' here, where we had to inform people (general public, children, ...) about the importance of sleep. As a medical student, I chose to write something about the importance of sleep in the medical field. Hope you guys read it, comments or remarks are welcome anytime.

I have been training still, and I'm still making progress. I will try and update as soon as possible!

Have a nice evening!

Does Berkeley have competent counseling staff? Why do we have to suffer at the hands of these government janitors.... I would look at having Berkeley convert your existing classes into their system so it looks like theirs and not somewhere else. Does that makes sense?

Thank you for your response, but unfortunately, UCSF does not accept international students for transfers. I can apply to start again from year 1, but I haven't come across an American (or Canadian) university yet that accepts international transfers.

Also, I do not completely understand the last part of your post, my apologies.

Strange enough, no. None of them accept transfer students, I can only apply to restart medical school, but even then, most of them require me to have studied at least one year in the USA.

Ugh, USA immigration system blows chunks. They only want you to start over because it's "not their standards." Though here is something worth fighting for to try to convince these schools. My 2nd tried transferring credits from another state into the current state we are in. The university went up and down on trying to make her start over, she fought it tooth and nail, eventually got her way and they accepted the credits. What she did was prove to them that the objectives were exactly the same.

I think you should try this. Look up all the medical school classes you took in Europe, do a side by side comparison and prove they are no different in objectives or standards. Majority of the time you have to force things in the USA, it's really lame.

That's a very good idea, I will try to look in to it, thanks for the input!

LaViidaLocaa,

Any update?

Sorry for the late response, I was leaving UC Berkeley on saturday, so had busy days before and a long trip home with 2 one-day layovers at LA and NY. I got home yesterday, safe and sound, no trouble of jetlag as fasting did the trick once again!

I just looked for the classes of Medical School in the US and noticed that I already took a lot of them: Immunology, embryology, anatomy, physiology, genetics, neuroscience, cell biology, history of medicine, ... . I'll also be having a lot of classes this year, so most of the classes overlap with US' curriculum.

So you suggest just emailing this information to the admission's offices of the universities then?
