Dan's eye health stack

* * * - -
alpha carotene lutein zeaxanthin lycopene astaxa dha taurine benfotiamine

Description

This is the vision stack I have been taking for almost a year with good results. I will post more details next week.

Idebenone is very powerful, but I only take it (in doses from 300 to 600 mg) when driving for many hours. I don't have a reason for not taking it all the time - I'm just not sure if it's safe.

Other non eye specific ingredients which I take and which help eye health are:

- Vitamin C (I prefer Pureway-C)
- Zinc
- Copper
- Selenium

Some ingredients which I don't take which can also help eye health are:

- Ginkgo Biloba
- Vinpocetine
- Coluracetam
- Carnosine eyedrops
- Zyflamend or other systemic anti-inflammatory (not sure which is the best for vision or which can be taken long term)

The SensiVit eye drops are a recent addition to the stack, so I can't vouch for their long term use. Some of the ingredients can cause bacterial resistance. Sensivit contains:

- retinyl palmitate (vitamin A)
- alpha-tocopherol acetate (vitamin E)
- Benzalkonium chloride
- sodium chloride (salt)
- sodium tetraborate (borax)
- polysorbate 80
- macrogolglycerol ricinoleate
- edatate disodic dihydric (EDTA?)

Ingredient Dosage Frequency Administration
Retinyl palmitate or acetate (preformed vitamin A) 10000 IU Twice a week Take 10000 IU twice a week or 2500 IU daily
Jarrow CarotenAll: carotenoid complex with beta carotene, alpha carotene, lutein, zeaxanthin, lycopene, astaxa 2 pill(s) Daily During day time, divided in 2 doses
DHA, a high end brand such as Nordic Naturals Xtra DHA or LEF 750 mg Daily During day time, divided in 2 doses
Full spectrum vitamin E (tocotrienols + tocopherols) such as LEF Gamma E Tocopherol/Tocotrienols 2 pill(s) Daily At the same time as the DHA to prevent peroxidation
Idebenone (from Kirkman Labs) 300 mg Daily OPTIONAL. During day time, divided in 2 doses
Taurine 1000 mg Daily Before bed time (it is a very calming and will help you sleep)
Astaxanthin (from LEF MacuGuard Ocular Support with Astaxanthin) 12 mg Daily During day time, divided in 2 doses
Bilberry (from Jarrow Bilberry + Grapeskin Polyphenols) 500 mg Daily During day time, divided in 2 doses
Blackcurrant (from Jarrow Blackcurrant + Lutein) 400 mg Daily During day time, divided in 2 doses
Benfotiamine 80 mg Daily During day time, divided in 2 doses
R-Lipoic Acid with Biotin 100 mg Daily During day time, divided in 2 doses

Hi Dan,

I'm looking for a stack aimed at preventing macular degeneration, do you think this would fit?

Right now I'm just taking Goji berry extract as I'm pretty young (36) but both sides of my family has the problem, so I'd like to be preventative.

Thanks,

MB

Lutein.

Itone eye drops have piqued my interest. http://www.ncbi.nlm....les/PMC3542029/

I have tried Coluracetam. The effects on my eyes are very good. The visual fatigue practically disappears.

I'm making Coluracetam a permanent part of my stack.

The dosages I tried are:

- 100 mg 3 times a day (which I consider megadosing)

- 80 mg 3 times a day (as recommended in the clinical studies for major depressive disorder)

- 20 mg 2 times a day (as recommended by Ceretropic)

I prefer the lowest dosage (the higher one is a bit too much for me).

I think this would be a good fit for preventing macular degeneration.

I recommend you to look up the AREDS I and II studies.

Also, here is a good source of info regarding eye problems: http://www.reviewofophthalmology.com/

Has anyone here tried Visoluten? It is a peptide for eye health or improved vision.
