Hi all, just came across this study. If this is true it could have significant positive effects on brain health..

NeuroFactor Increases Active Levels of Critical Protein for Cognitive Health

Clinical Study

NeuroFactor Whole Coffee Fruit Concentrate is a patented product from the whole fruit of the coffee plant, Coffea arabica. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot human clinical study, NeuroFactor increased levels of Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) by 143% on average. BDNF is a protein active in the brain and central and peripheral nervous systems with a critical role in neuron development and repair and in protecting against neuro-degeneration. BDNF is important for learning, memory, alertness, mood, controlling body weight, and controlling energy metabolism.

The results indicate NeuroFactor could be used for modulation of BDNF-dependent health conditions in humans. No significant increase in BDNF was seen in subjects taking green coffee bean extract, natural coffee caffeine, grape seed extract, or chlorogenic acid.

I find it hilarious that none of the fifteen citations in the paper ( http://coffeefruits....cals-Inc.-1.pdf ) point to the actual study.

Also found this. Google this article:
BDNF-boosting coffee fruit concentrate could have applications in sports recovery as well as cognitive health

It says, while the pilot study is still awaiting publication (It is currently in press in the British Journal of Nutrition)

Apparently it was a double-bind, placebo-controlled study but it only had 10 people. Also states that they are currently conducting a much larger study that will be submitted for publication Q1 2013.

Sounds kinda legit...

Attention gullible masses of the internet!

This study has not been accepted for publication in any reputable journal and has not been subject to peer-review.

There is a chance that this may be legit... BUT this is a marketing study and OP appears to be a shill.

Anyway, there is decades of research on stuff like l-deprenyl and lithium that show more impressive, long-term increases in BDNF.

EDIT:
Correction, the British Journal of Nutrition published it here. Can anyone give me access to the full paper?

Nevertheless, my point stands about being skeptical. As the abstract states...

[..] larger clinical studies are needed to support this possibility.

Eat you words peakplasma!!!

Nah just kidding. I understand why you might assume I'm a "shill" as I'm new here and came up with this semi shady sponsored study. Its OK.

I'm pretty interested in raising BDNF, and my main question is that administration of of 100 mg coffee fruit extract raised BDNF 143%, but what happenes then?  Did you just flood your body with your daily stores of BDNF and so a few hours later BDNF concentrations are lower?  Or is it, much more optimally, the kind of thing you can take a few times a day, each providing a 143% BDNF increase?

If anybody has any idea I'd appreciate hearing about it.  Here are some better references. A patent on coffee fruit extract raising BDNF up to 300% https://patents.goog...NF brain coffee

Also as to sources I just got coffee fruit extract from two places, Ebay, as the pill that contains the patented NeuroFactor, and alibaba.com where a Kg of extract powder with express shipping is about $89.  I do not know if alibaba's idea of an extract is the same as a the patent's idea of an an extract.  Still, even if they are 10x apart in concentration the alibaba powder is just 8.9 cents per gram, and the patented pill version approaches $.7 for 100 milligrams.
