Brainstorming gives nice ideas.

Lets try to find a cheap way to be immortal.

When you hear immortality for 10 000 dollars what do you imagine?

I imagine a budget shop, the biotech equivalent of Poundland! Seriously though, I imagine a world where life extension is the normal thing to strive for, the movement has gone mainstream and many companies are vying for the market of anti-ageing with products that actually work. As with all technologies, the prices of life extension technologies will drop with time and it will one day be as cheap as $10,000 and even further in the future even cheaper than that. :)

Alright. Lets develope your idea.

So, you imagine something like a cheap pharmacy shop for anti-aging products, that work. Nothing is impossible in the future.

In this case you have to give the 10 000 dollars periodically. So, what should be the cost for an year? Or for a month? What medications you would need? And how many different medications? I remember reading, somewhere in the internet, about some idiot, who is taking 300 pills! a day! for living longer.

If your way becomes true, and you really start to need to take 300 pills a day, will 10 000 dollars be enough - for a day, for a month, or for an year? If it is the cost for a day, you will bankrupt :}   10 000 dollars are 1 000 000 cents. How muh cents should cost a pill for one year ?

What should be these products? Aspirin protect?

I believe it will be very cheap to produce. We have proven we can make bacteria produce almost any protein we want. Once you get a culture producing it and the purification technique is nailed down, it's just a matter of throwing them into a huge vat or continuous bioreactor for mass production. The problem will be if the magic molecule is a complicated giant protein that cannot get into the cell and has to be made inside the cell. Then we have to rely on smaller precursors and stimulating the cell to assemble the required protein(s) itself.

It's been 3 years since the GDF11 initial studies, and the youthful blood component(s) still are subject to debate. The technology of immortality will be so immediately disruptive that the consequences have to be measured carefully. I can see people giving treatments to dogs, cats, and other mammals. Do you deny prisoners immortality, or does a life sentence become a forever sentence?

I also thought about the fact that one would pay 10 000 dollars periodically, say for a year longer, and each year 10 000 until there are no money left. though Bill Gates would outlive this planet :D

Here is an option, that got to me as na idea, while discussing a topic in the Cryonics section

Free head only cryogenics procedure

After your death, you no longer care for the organs in your coprpse. So, you can arrange selling your organs after the death, that will pay you the head only procedure.

Are we close to being able to grow organs? If so, what alternative do you propose? I would definitely sign up for cryonics if it was cheap and/or free. :)

No. At that moment (2017-2018) unfortunately we are not close to growing organs. Plus the head transplantation hasn't been performed yet, as far as I know. That is why I persnallty believe, that we need the full body cryopreservation. But obviously there are people, who sciencerly believe, that the full body cryopreservations is not the best option and prefer to save only their head or even only their brain.

The cryonics companies are offering head only (Alcor, CI, KrioRus) and brain only (KrioRus) options as smaller and cheaper options than the full body cryopreservation. For people, who choose to cryoprotect their head or brain, it is possble to sell their organs after the death in order to pay for the cryopreservation of their head. This equals as a free ticket to the cryonics.

The head only and the brain only are not options for me. Unfortuantely I will not be able to benefit from my idea :) because if I cryopreserve myself after the death, I will cryopreserve full body.
