depends if you got familial tendonitis or not.  if you do, it is not good for you.  except in moderation you can still get away with that.

but i have to be the second poster in this thread to hang a question mark on professional bodybuilding.. extremely high calorie, low fiber diets.. bodily and drug abuse.  in the grand scheme of things all this might only shave 2-3 years off your life, but those are two years you'll never get back and you ultimately can't keep this lifestyle up past your 70s or 80s you'll eventually crash and burn.  that doesnt have to happen if you pace yourself, care less about your numbers, generally listen to your body and engage in a balance of cycling, yoga, meditation, massages, and a higher fiber diet.  i may only be 170lbs at 5'10" and people may tell me i look "just toned" but theyre just jealous, i can see it in their eyes the reflection of my worn t-shirt and popping pectorals.  the sight of them is good for sore eyes.  it's been that way ever since i took to a diet of pumpkin seeds and gingerale, cause i haven't been to the gym in god knows how long..

don't bench heavy when your elbows are already killing you and you'll be just fine.  don't get insanely strong or stretch out your tendons on the molecular level and you should be fine.  lifting heavy, taking steroids, it's kind of like deforming a spring or rubber band.. we don't know how to restore its elasticity, at least not yet.  i'm guessing that's why a lot of athletes get tendinitis really easy in their old age, years of extreme activity have stretched their tendons like UV rays on wrinkly skin.  i'm only 24 and i'm already feeling the need to slow it down. i'll probably slow down even more around age 40, even more at 60, and i'll probably be all sedentary by 80.  but that'll be okay cause i'll be eating more vegetables than i am today, in order to compensate for the laziness

although you can get away with bodybuilding a lot longer than professional footballers can play their sport, all the heavy lifting still takes its toll and it's best to enjoy in moderation.  you really think the best thing when you have tendinitis, back pain, shoulder pain is to go lift insanely heavy?  that's your body giving you warning signs, don't ignore them.. things will get out of hand.  lift lighter, actually stretch before you work out, study proper form, anti-inflammatory foods.. generally just listen to your body.. the whole point of exercise is to stay healthy not to hurt yourself  there's a reason why so many athletes retire after a major surgery..
