Inositol Hexaphosphate (aka IP6) has some promising research behind it.

IP6 a very inexpensive & benign supp with remarkable risk/reward ratio.

Always take it on an empty stomach with plain water.

IP6 has been kind of a discover for me thanks to Dorian Grey and did really its job on my ferritin levels for those who do not have read me yet on this.

Wrt NK I have been reading on some, not huge though, clinical evidence on AHCC on humans, a well known (unfortunately quite expensive) mushroom extract. You might check e.g. these sites:

http://ahccresearch....al_Evidence.pdf

http://humanclinicals.org/search

(search on AHCC and under mechanism of action, they quote: "AHCC prompts an early activation of the immune system by increasing the activity of immune cells known as natural killer (NK) cells and the immune system messengers known as cytokines. These cells trigger the immune response against infectious or abnormal cells. AHCC can enhance CD4+ and CD8+ T cell immune responses in healthy people through increasing the production of the cytokines gamma interferon and tumor necrosis factor alpha from T cells.")

How much IP6 do you take daily and are IP6 and myo-inositol the same thing or are they isomers?

Who's IP6 do you take?

I'm only taking one 500mg Jarrow IP6/day along with two 500mg myo-inositol caps (Vitamin Shoppe).

IP6 Gold (brand) uses a combination of IP6 and myo-inositol, which I assume helps prevent the IP6 from being broken down in the body for simple inositol.  IP6 Gold is quite expensive, so I simply combine the two separate (and cheap) supplements in the ratios used in IP6 Gold.

The myo-inositol (inositol trispyrophosphate) is different from IP6 (inositol hexaphosphate).

Jarrow's IP6 has been on backorder for several months, but it's important to me my IP6 is sourced from Japanese sources (Tsuno Foods) as American rice bran has a higher arsenic content. Japanese IP6 doesn't have this problem (arsenic content less than 5ppm).

IP6 chelates arsenic so low levels should remain bound to the IP6.  American soil (where American rice is grown) contains high levels of arsenic.  Don't know if some of this might escape the chelating effect, so I prefer Japanese sourced rice bran extract.

Thanks for posting the Cell Forte ratio John.  I didn't realize the IP6 content was that much higher than the myo-inositol.

I take IP6 for health, & myo-inositol for sleep.  Myo-inositol is remarkable sleep aid. Doesn't make you drowsy at all, but clears your head of those pesky thought-loops that can keep you awake at night.  Myo-Inositol very big in the OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) groups.

One gram half an hour before bed, & I'm in dreamland within minutes after hitting the pillow.  My girlfriend swears by it too.  Sleep like a baby, wake up bright as a button.

I take my IP6 in the morning as it is a remarkable internal deodorant.  Free/labile iron acts as a catalyst for lipid oxidation which generates stinky (and carcinogenic!) malondialdehyde & 2-Nonenal (aka 4-Hydroxynonenal / 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal or 4-HNE)  I work as a surgical assistant & wear a gown & gloves under hot lamps & high stress for hours at a time. I really notice a difference in sweat odor when I start my day with IP6.

Nonenal has been associated with "old person smell".   Oldsters accumulate iron as they age...  IP6 chelates this.  Stay young and odorless!

I am taking only 1/2 of the recommended dose (meaning one serving = 2 caps per day) of the Cell Forte IP6 formula below but found it useful too at least for chelating my iron. I wonder if I should consider more:

Add to this some protection for my prostate condition which is an additional reason, see my post here discussing with Dorian Grey, aka Synesthesia I guess.

I don’t necessarily think 3.2g ip6 is needed from the Cell Forte powder but you can take 1/4 or 1/4 scoop and it’s the mat cost effective. I wonder how important it is to take on an empty stomach though. I mean there is calcium and magnesium added to the formula so if an empty stomach was important I’d think they wouldn’t add those.

Are myo-inositol and inositol being used interchangeably?  That is, they are the same thing.

Myo-inositol can be taken with food, but if you want to chelate free/labile iron with IP6 it must be taken on an empty stomach with plain water.

If you take IP6 with meals, it can chelate important dietary minerals (zinc & magnesium) in the gut before they can be absorbed, & will get too loaded up with these to chelate inflammatory free/labile iron in tissues.

https://www.ncbi.nlm...pubmed/14637247

"trace amounts of "free" iron can catalyse production of a highly toxic hydroxyl radical via Fenton/Haber-Weiss reaction cycle"

The hydroxyl radical is one of the most destructive forces found in human physiology.

IP6 is very easy on the stomach & I've never had any trouble taking it without food.

Thanks for the detailed IP6 information.I can understand the avoidance of chelation of minerals in the gut by not dosing with food.

My question is that once in the blood, in addition to iron, does it still chelate other minerals like Zinc, and Magnesium?  Mineral/Electrolyte balance is important to me.

Over-chelation of trace mins is concerning.  This paper:

https://webcache.goo...n&ct=clnk&gl=us

Effect of Inositol Hexaphosphate on Lipopolysaccharide-Stimulated Release of TNFα from Human Mononuclear Cells

States: This strong chelating capacity

of IP6 associated with its six reactive phosphate groups

has in the past been regarded as responsible for antinu-

tritional side effects of IP6. however, more recent stud-

ies have contradicted those opinions by stating that in

evaluation of antinutritional effects of IP6 various factors

should be considered, such as the ratio of IP6 to overall

mineral content of the diet [7]. It has been shown that

the antinutritional effect of IP6 could be manifested only

when large amounts of IP6 were consumed together with

a diet poor in trace elements, but if essential minerals

were present in the proper ratio with respect to IP6, there

was no modification of mineral balance [7]. Studies in

rats fed IP6 showed no significant toxic effects on serum

or bone mineral deficiency [8]. Furthermore, the analysis

of IP6 effect on mineral status in rats fed for a long time

period through a second generation to evaluate possible

effects related to a pregnancy and lactation revealed no

decrease in mineral bioavailability, with the exception

of lower zinc levels in bone [9]. In addition, rats fed an

equilibrated purified diet with IP6 showed about 10-fold

higher concentrations of zinc in bone compared to the

control animal group [6]. It has also been reported that

a high IP6-containing diet did not negatively affect rat

plasma copper and zinc concentrations [10] and no re-

lation of zinc deficiency with IP6 has been observed in

women who ingested vegetarian or meat-based diet with

equal IP6 contents [11]

These studies appear to include animals where the IP6 was included with the chow (taken with meals).

I expect those prone to magnesium & zinc deficiencies (Vegans & those on PPI/acid blockers) might want to supplement low dose mag & zinc if you're going to be taking IP6 regularly.

IP6 chelates only divalent & mulit-valent metals, so electrolytes like potassium, sodium, chloride & bicarbonate shouldn't be affected at all.

Interestingly, it also appears to chelate nuclear metals (uranium) https://www.ncbi.nlm...pubmed/17627956

As polonium-210 is one of the primary carcinogenic components of tobaccco smoke, IP6 may be a good prophylactic against smoking related cancers.

Mercury also a divalent metal, so IP6 my be helpful with vaccine or dental amalgam toxicity.

I feel this is drifting a bit off topic and on IP6 only (the link being immune enhancement though). But as as there, how about IP6 chelating possibly Cadmium, it is an issue for me.

Looks like cadmium is a divalent metal:

https://www.quora.co...es-Cadmium-have

I haven't found much online about cadmium chelation with IP6 though.
