The latest Life Extension has an article about preventing AGE/ crosslink problems using various supplements.
It is believed that crosslinked proteins created by glycation reactions cannot be removed. However, it is suggested that carnosine
may reduce wrinkles or that bentfotiamine may help diabetic nerve issues.
My question is that some of these improvements look structural rather than just preventative. You lose some wrinkles, some diabetic damage and so on.
Is there an explanation for these? Could there be changes in crosslinked structures that haven't been noticed ?
By example, I understand that it was held that humans have no ability to synthesize vitamin C in their bodies - but this is now being questioned. Surprises pop up sometimes......I hope for one involving crosslinks/glycation.
