So I rarely use caffeine because of the topics I will get into in a sec.  I am going to start this thread with my own concepts and then we can get into more specific stuff.

Lots of the people I know who drink coffee require it daily.  A cup at the start of the day, a cup in the middle of the day, a cup at the end of the day.  They can't function without it.  I don't want to get like that.

I use caffeine rarely, maybe fewer than one time per week on average.  Often lots of weeks go by where I haven't had any.  There was a time when I was drinking coffee every day and the first day it was wonderful, and after that I didn't really feel much.  Having it available when I need it is awesome, and legitimately half a cup and I am FULL OF ENERGY.  Raised energy lasts for an hour or two and then it's gone. Something else is I want to use it rarely because I don't want to have that increase and not have a reason for it like hey I'm doing nothing but I'm amped up while waiting for something to do.  Now, I've noticed tolerance builds quickly meaning it should be used seldom.  But, for times when you need to use it further, what can you do to decrease tolerance afterwards?  Additionally, what can you do to not have bad effects of wanting caffeine when you halt using it?

Like, when I use it, one day I am fine.  If I need to have it again the next day I want a bit more to get a smaller feeling.  And then by the third day, nope.

Regarding this topic, though, I like the taste and drink it black.  It's not a coffee thing.  It's a there's no purpose for me to feel the result of caffeine every day if I don't need it.

There seem to be some advantageous effects of caffeine and coffee as far as vibrance goes.  However I wonder if the effect of wanting it every day is acceptable.

Moreover I haven't tried decaff coffee.  Usually when I drink tea it's decaff green tea.  While I like the wellness benefits of tea I don't want the effects of caffeine.  Having unused caffeine receptors is awesome.  Some people that have talked to me said they use so much caffeine that they don't feel it anymore.  Then caffeine seems like a chasing the dragon drug.

Maybe try caffeine in pill form, like those fatburners blends or (pre-workout) bodybuilding supplements? (With Trade Mark stuff in it)
Or try Turkish tea, whenever I'm in Turkey I can drink it throughout the whole day (like the locals do in those small tea glasses) and unlike (coffee) caffeine I get a little boost by each drink without building tolerance. I think it's black tea but I'm not sure. (And make sure you prepare it like they do in Turkey)

I only drink coffee once a day when I wake up and people who drink regularly are always shocked by the amount of coffee I put in my cup.
It's the best way to get me up for the day and I never noticed any tolerance (but then again I don't really get "amped up" from caffeine).

I generally agree with your coffee assessment ironfistx. I live with a person who drinks it like water, to seemingly little effect. Me, 1/4 to 1/2 cup with a lot of milk-like something in the morning is way-plenty to get the day going. Likewise in the afternoon when my partner has more, I repeat the AM ritual. More than that little bit makes me feel weird, and not in a good way.

However I've found no problem from occasional use of a supp of Caffeine (200 mg) and L-Theanine (100 mg) pre-exercise. I always wonder why that is OK?

I don't like the addictive nature of caffeine, otherwise I drink moderate amounts of coffee and tea for the health benefits. Some people have argued the caffeine could be protective against Alzheimer's (there is a thread about it here at LongeCity....somewhere).

Before there was a comment about using pills.  That's odd.  When I take chocomine which has like 80mg of caffeine I didn't feel a lot at all, but when I drink a little cup of coffee which has like maybe 40 I feel it.  There might be something else structurally that benefits the effect?  Since I would expect caffeine to be the same this makes coffee seem powerful.

I believe the benefit of caffeine is that it is a xanthine, and dietary xanthines seem to give xanthine oxidase something to do besides liberating iron from ferritin.

https://www.ncbi.nlm...les/PMC1147813/

The liver is the primary storage site for excess iron, which is stored as/in ferritin, and xanthine oxidase, which is produced in the liver is known to liberate iron from ferritin.  Free / labile iron is the ultimate pro-oxidant, so inhibiting release of iron from ferritin would seem to be beneficial.  The primary benefit from coffee appears to be its ability to keep the liver happy, so this supports my theory.

Caffeine & nicotine appear to have similar "don't worry, be happy" CNS effects, with caffeine being much safer than tobacco.  Sort of like having your cake and eating it too!  Heck, anything that can reduce the risk of topping yourself...

So does caffeine from pills yield equal benefit as from coffee?

Can coffee without it share any benefit?

I've read coffee has quite a few components that may be beneficial, and nothing specific has been identified.  My theory is the caffeine/xanthine.

Theobromine in cocoa/chocolate is another xanthine with interesting properties.  Jeanne Calment, the worlds longest lived person was said to have eaten a kilo of chocolate a week.  She lived to 122...  Not too shabby for someone who also smoked and drank in moderation.
