Hi guys,

For half a year or so I've been trying to stick to 18 hours of fasting. I'm not managing it every day, but would say that I'm breaking the fast two days a week.

Anyhow, I've heard that 18 hours a day may not be enough to actually benefit much from increased autophagy. Is this true?

If it is, do you guys recommend any schedule that would good be to reap the benefits of increased autophagy?

I'm thinking like doing 36 hours of fasting once or twice a week instead of the 18 hours or combine the 18 hours with one or two days of 36 hours.

What do you think?

18-20 hours daily fasting.  exercise at the end of the fast.

continuous fast 4-5 days once per month.

Quite a bit depends on your diet... if ketogenic, you'll benefit much sooner.

There are a number of worthwhile videos explaining this issue, but the following is probably up there in terms of quality of information - by Dr Stan Ekberg.

I've started the video as the point where he explains when Autophagy likely starts ramping up:

As I know the best fasting schedules:
-5 days or more of a fasting mimicking diet (yes, a diet that makes your body believe you are in fasting mode) developed by Valter Longo

-5:2 diet, so two days in the week you take very low calories from IDK because I have never done, but you could read about this, looks at the books from Michael Mosley. The diet was developed by Michelle Harvie

Longo is a nice guy, but he sells also his stuff...

ed about 18-20h fast, exercise also in a fast state (short and intense, so sprinting, weights...), then infrared sauna, wait 1h or 2 (if you can), then eat (keto diet or low carbs ideal, avoid at least high glycemic carbs)

If you can dry fast (not needed all days...) it's even better.

I found this breakdown of the diet for anyone interested:

More manageable than pure 3-4 day fasting for sure. :)
