On page 126 of Super Human, by David Asprey.

"Black pepper absolutely does raise your levels of turmeric and many other polyphenols.... it does it by interfering with cytochrome P450 3A4 liver detox. which you need to stay young.

That liver pathway cleans out pollutants, and by messing with that detox pathway, black pepper extract prevents your body from clearing potentially harmful compounds."

There are many studies that support black pepper's benefits when taken in conjunction things like turmeric.  As for the second sentence,

the following article confirms the inhibition of cytochrome P450 3A4: https://www.semantic...e39a6a12f7326be

The latter sentence is where I have questions.  Might the raising of polyphenols (e.g. antioxidants) neutralize free radicals better than CYP3A4, temporarily while (X amount of time) it has an affect on levels of that enzyme?

It seems he's suggesting that pepper isn't something healthy to put on food, but what other evidence do we have to support such a bold claim?

There is ~7.4% Piperine in black pepper. How many grams of black pepper do you intend on using? A typical dose of piperine is 5 mgs, so to get that much from black pepper, you would need to ingest ~70 grams of the stuff. Highly unlikely you could manage that!

Yes, there are studies that show clearly that piperine increases absorption of some supplements, but if you use it (piperine) it's best to limit its use to one or a couple supplements at a time, so as not to gum up the works when and if ingesting many supplements. That could easily cause some unintended consequences, metabolically speaking.
