Gin and Tonic may also be purchased without the Gin.

Available in the Supermarket Soda Aisle Tonic Water contains Quinine and is readily available for around $1 a Bottle and might possess Antiviral effects.

The Medication chloroquine is just an analogue of Quinine that drug companies sell as Cinchona, Quinine or Tonic Water can not be sold as a medication.

So, drug companies must invent drugs that are similar in order to market them as drugs.

These antimalarial drugs quinine, chloroquine and mefloquine are antagonists and very similar in efficacy.

Currently the Chinese are investigating  Chloroquine for patients with Coronavirus:

Coronavirus[edit]

In trials conducted in China, chloroquine appears to be useful for coronavirus disease 2019.[12] See § Research for details.

These antimalarial drugs quinine, chloroquine and mefloquine are antagonists and very similar in efficacy.

Its history goes back to Peru (South America), where the indigenous people extracted the bark of the Cinchona[33] trees and used the extract (Chinchona officinalis) to fight chills and fever in the seventeenth century. In 1633 this herbal medicine was introduced in Europe, where it was given the same use and also began to be used against malaria.[34] The quinoline antimalarial drug quinine was isolated from the extract in 1820, and chloroquine is an analogue of this.

Interesting find Bixby! However the tonics available at my supermarket have extremely small amounts of quinine. Those who feel that they should take special measures could try to make tea from bark of cinchona. In my country available in health food stores.

Tonic water without the Gin. Key point here. Alcohol is known to lower immune response. https://www.livestro...-immune-system/

Schweppes is probably the most famous of quinine drinks.

i highly doubt though that you can get the quinine dosage necessary for Covid19 just from these drinks. It’s probably negligible . At the dosage needed for Covid , Choloroquine has heart attacks among its side effects.

I’d love nothing more than being wrong though. Schweppes is one of my favorite soft drinks, and the idea of combatting evil viruses while sipping on a nice cold glass of these drinks is lovely.

Here is  a way to make your own tonic water.. This way it  should be possible to ingest some more quinine and not drink fructose and other undesirable stuff:

I use a Moulinex Coffee Grinder and grind Chinchona into a fine powder. Cut open a Tea bag and empty the tea.

Place One Gram of Cinchona Bark powder per 6 oz of water. The Water is filtered and fully boiled.

Steep the Cinchona Tea Bag in boiled water that is covered to retain the heat for 15 to 20 Minutes.

Instead of Sugar I add one pack of Splenda for each 6 ozs of Orange Liquid for my homemade Tonic.

I mix Gin and Soda Water to taste and add an oz of Orange Cinchona to taste.

Makes a Nice Orange Color.

You can buy Cinchona Bark capsules or powder.

Adverse effects include Cinchonism and Quinism. Another concern is long QT syndrome.

So cinchonism side effects clear on their own? i'm not clear on the wiki article's description.

Any permanent loss in visual acuity would generally lead to a shorter life span when all the details in the world matter as much as they do.

As for quinism...

Neuropsychiatric quinism is a chronic encephalopathy due to intoxication by mefloquinequinacrinechloroquine.

So intoxication is the result of abusing quinines at drug abuse doses? What's the therapeutic index and where if at all does "intoxication" fall on that scale?

Quinine & chloroqine act as an ionophore to get zinc across cell membranes into the cells where COVID replication occurs.  If you can get zinc into these cells, it will inhibit replication of coronavirus.

The less available physiological zinc, the higher the dose of ionophore required to have a significant effect.

More available zinc means lower doses of ionophore should suffice.

Got zinc?

Great link bixbyte.  Thank YOU!  No need to mega-dose zinc.  You just need to be sure you're not deficient.  50mg/day is supposed to be the max, & I wouldn't keep that level for more than 30 days or so.  I'm cutting my tabs in half 25mg/day for the long haul.

Plasma levels of zinc are highest 2-4 hours after dosing as zinc is absorbed in the jejunum.  This is prime time to dose your ionophore.

Cheers!

Trump mentioned the term Prophylaxis and I am using 1 gram of Ground Cinchona Bark in 6 ounces of water.

500 milligrams dose day one is 3 ounces of home made Tonic Water

250 Milligrams dose day two, three, four and five is 1.5 ounces of Tonic Water

Add Gin and Soda to Taste

Plus whatever Zinc you decide is appropriate.

And add a Z-Pack (Zithromax) under your Doctor's prescription.

All this is Just in My Most Humble Opinion

Since there are known side effects of Tonic Water Use of this recipe is at your own risk

YIKES!  That's some strong stuff!  Please be careful and make sure no one else (kids) get into that.

If I get sick & can't get HCQ, I may be in the market for some of your hooch.  Does one Krugerrand per liter sound fair?

Interesting comment on this Quinine Extract on Amazon saying quinine should glow under a black light:

If you receive this product and it won't flow in the dark after shining a blacklight onto it for a minute or two, then it surely does not contain ANY Quinine.

Quinine is used in Tonic Water, and in a very small amount, which makes the water seem to glow a bit after being exposed to a True Blacklight.
Quinine is made from the bark of a tree and has been used for centuries as a treatment for malaria. ... Under an ultraviolet black light, the quinine in tonic water makes the water fluoresce a brilliant, bright blue (even though only a relatively small amount of quinine is dissolved in the water).

Yes, wikipedia's quinine page has a good photo of Canada Dry tonic fluorescing.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quinine

Add a drop of gin to your tonic and you'll glow too!
