I'm pretty sure my estimates as to how long this will take err'd on the low side. My computers are taking 4 times real time or longer just to go from avhd to mp4. then to get to flash takes at least real time also. So I'm looking at 5x real time devided by 3 computers, minus however much sleep I need.

Hey Richard! don't think I seen you before.
Thanks alot for the hard work (as Live Forever said already).

Aubrey, I must say, your work gathering everyone into the subject and having so many great lectures made by people for the goal is great, good job and keep it up!

Stuart (don't know last name) ran the camera for many sessions also.

Cutting the mp3's into individual talks, is as hard as it is to cut the videos.

Audacity is an open-source audio editing program that makes editing (splicing) mp3 tracks reasonably easy. It can be a little time consuming (the encoding process can take a couple of minutes with files over 10 minutes), but it's not really all that difficult using Audacity, you only need to select the section of the file you'd like to cut out, highlight it, cut it out, and then paste it into a new project window, it has mp3 encoding/exporting so once it's done encoding it, you're all set with the new, shorter/individual mp3's. Not sure if it's of help, but I thought I'd mention it based on your comment.

For discussions, anything over 64 kbps should be more than enough.

Fascinating.

I'm very interested to hear what people think of Michael Rose's talk. I've nearly finished reading "Ending Aging," and Aubrey did a remarkable job of convincing me that that aging really is nothing more than the spiraling accumulation of damage. I'm going to have to reread the early chapters and dig deeper into Michael Rose's research; right now, I'm simply not seeing what the pathways are for the "SENSE" view of aging -- specifically, what Rose means when he describes aging as a "loss of adaptation" and how he expects that loss occurs on a biological level.

In the meantime, if anyone can offer any insights (or links) that could help me get a better understanding of the SENSE view and its validity, I'd appreciate it.

I want to know what happened from 30 years ago, to today. How old are the flys now? Why?

Dawn Mazzatti is up

These and many more are already ftp'd to mprize.org, it's going to take work to be able to stream there or make them accessable there though, so I'm uploading them both places. mp4's at mprize.org one day, and streaming flash in my gallery.

Thanks Richard. Appreciate the hard work. It's great for those of us who can't jet around the world to these conferences.

The video for Arne Akbar's talk seems to be hosed (audio is fine). Any idea if there's a way to fix this?

EDIT: Fascinating ... apparently you can see most of the keyframes if you grab the slider and go to just the right frame. It appears that the compression was flawed and puts a distorted image from the beginning of the movie between all the keyframes, but the keyframes are still there if you seek to them manually.

Richard: thanks a lot for your work!
I would have loved to attend (even though i am an IT guy with no clue so no value to the event but still :) ) but work thought otherwise. Ah well, at least i get to see the video of it! Plus i can send links of select presentations to interested folks. kudos!

Richard--this is truly amazing and invaluable, my gratitude (as I eschewed the cost of flying to attend live-time) this is all extremely fresh and relevant.

Everyone--you can only vote once, please go vote for your favorite--and please share this incredible link where you can on the net, other forums, yahoo groups, blogs etc.

(I'm looking forward to hearing Aubrey's stance on how biologists and gerontologists can support cryonics, that hell be giving this weekend at Alcor's conference (as he is a member and supporter, but for many understandable and laudable reasons had to leave that out of his book). I'm sure it will be a while till the info gets out--I'll ask Aubrey if he'll be able to share after conference or not. )

Tomorrow, mp3's will be up, and maybe ipod ready videos at 480x320, and a few days later, ipod videos at 320x240.

Does everyone prefer the ipod videos at maximum bit rate? Meaning, I can go up to 1500 kpbs (.1875 megabytes per second) of file size per second of video. with the ipod hardware curently out. I'll probably experiment a bit. I only have an ipod touch to experiment on though. (480x320) native.

I'm new to ipod video.
