Someone stated on the other forum that it would be nice if those of us in the USA can help buy and ship out parts overseas.
The US Dollar is VERY WEAK now, and thus it makes US products appear even cheaper!

Those that need parts, please list them.
Those that are willing to ship out, please state so too.

Hope this will be a great start to bump those PPD for our overseas friends.

Absolutely! I get hammered on the cost of Graphics cards as mentioned, I would have to spend the uk eqivalent of 110 dollars (minimum) for a 9600 GSO so even if shipping was $20 it would still make a significant difference. Obviously this would work best for thelighter/less bulky items such as CPUs and Graphics cards, whatever is most value dense.

OK so this offer by Newegg seems suitably insane ie 2 9600GSOs for $100, (with "mail in" whatever that is). If there's better, let me know.

Chung, Mind or anyone else If your happy to get and mail them to me, I'll pay an agreed amount via PayPal or whatever + estimated or confirmed shipping up-front (ie before you order so I have the exposure, not you, as this transaction is to my benefit).

Let me know.

I do not trust Asus for their mail in rebates. I would wait for say eVGA.

PNY for £58. It's a 256MB model - some said the small memory might not be able to handle large proteins in the future but as FAH dev group have been good in making as good use of people's equipment as possible, I wouldn't be surprised if the server could send just small proteins to these cards.

I bought one but it's not running yet at least (I haven't tried).

That's pretty good for the UK, 256 isn't ideal but I'm sure it would be ok. Good find Poser!

Bad news here. My internet service provider DO NOT want me to use router!!!! They cut me off for 2 days and warned me!
I will be liquidating my rigs until I find some way to get internet. My PPD also drops to 0.
Let me know if anyone would be interested in 4GPU monsters...
Will post more details

Dang ISPs, unlimited usage my @rse! Guys (and gals), if it's an option we need to step up to take some of the 40,000 or so PPD that Chung was producing until he's back on line.

I'd be interested in buying a beast-rig but being in the UK it would cost a ton to send :(

Sounds very odd, selling equipment worth $800 a piece because of a bad ISP... I don't mean to downsize your problem but that's just weird.

I assume you're not really capable of sending me stuff now?

Could you care to answer this question:

Should I buy PSU from Europe because of the different electricity?
What 3 GPU's should I order? (you said Newegg doesn't sell 9600 GSO even when it's on their page)

Thanks!

I never said I am selling equipment worth $800 a piece. I might need to liquidate some machines though.
Most 600+ Watts power supplies can take 100-240volts, just read the specifications. So that should cover the whole world. The only thing you need to worry about is the type of wall plug you have and if it is different than the US.
I have some 9600GSOs that I got for cheap a while bad. When I go home, I will take a look at what I have.
Yes, I can send you stuff now since all of my machines are offline now. My initial plan is to sell some of the GPUs to whoever interested, and buy new ones once I get my internet problems solved.
I say I would not recommend the Asus board on newegg, because Asus have a bad reputation of mail in rebates.

Ok Chung, If you are going to liquidate some of your inventory, let us know what you have and what price you will charge. Then we can get down to the business of getting them purchased and shipped to other TLM folders.

Thanks again for all your efforts. I hope you get back up and running soon. Sorry to hear about your ISP problem.

You didn't mention $800. I counted $100 CPu + $200 GPU'S, case + power $150 + HD+CD $75 + memory $50 + MB $50 = $625 pretty close.

You said this to me privately "Newegg haven't had any 9600gso in a looong time. "

There are new cards at $80 with free shipping and $60 recertified.

Anyway, hope you get things running again.

This thread and concept kind of died on its arse. I'm still interested in some tech-arbitrage ie if another trusted member of the team can be bother to buy and send me a couple of cards (eg 8800s or 9800s) from the US, new or used i would get them up and running over here.

The reason behind this is that GPUs here have cost me between £55 and 75.00 here (or $85 -110) which is loads higher than the US from what I understand. I'd be interested to here on 2nd hand or new cards, strip off all the box, packaging and crap and it shouldn't cost too much to send.

Of course I'd pay before anyone sent anything to me by paypal or someother means.

Alternatively maybe Imminst could take a intermediary role so everyone feels like they are dealing through a trusted party...

Let me hear your thoughts people!

This may be best applied to used parts or certain very selected new items.

The reason behind this is that GPUs here have cost me between £55 and 75.00 here (or $85 -110) which is loads higher than the US from what I understand.

Often what looks like a good deal here, in the United States, depends on several other factors.

- Free shipping from the organization selling the item

- Rebates - these cause a price to appear much lower than common, but rebates require some effort on the part of the purchaser and usually weeks, if not months of waiting. Often the rebate company must be prodded by phone calls (this is time consuming). Records must be kept, else one forgets that a rebate is due them. Strict rules are applied, sometimes a rebate is voided for a seemingly small technical rule.

- Taxes - State sales taxes vary from state-to-state, also depend on whether one purchases in-state or out-of-state.

- Local Sales tax - Cities, counties or municipalities often add a tax that is combined with the state sales tax at purchase. Again, these local taxes may depends on whether purchasing in-state or out-of-state.

These combined taxes, if levied, apply to the full price (not the price after rebate).

Given the above factors, seems like it would be difficult (not impossible) to find what might be a good deal after additional shipping cost and effort (overseas).

I'd be interested to here on 2nd hand or new cards, strip off all the box, packaging and crap and it shouldn't cost too much to send. Of course I'd pay before anyone sent anything to me by paypal or some other means.

Probably, this is the best bet.

The limitation may be the availability of used equipment.

Maybe as equipment becomes available, folders can post a list of their excess inventory.

Alternatively maybe Imminst could take a intermediary role so everyone feels like they are dealing through a trusted party...

It might be good if ImmInst tried to develop an active Folding Parts-Trading & Hot Deals section.

Such a subforum might also attract outsiders looking for a deal, this could help promote the Meme.

If such a section became very active, it could involve lots of transactions involving money and listings of commercial sites offering "Hot Deals".

For the preceding reasons, Mind and ImmInst directors probably should give this a nod of approval.

Then, anyone with "wants" or "for-sale items" or "Hot Deals", could start listing.

I will be sending off the following to Sentinel on March 18th.
3x PNY 9600GS0 768MB.

I am testing those 3 cards at the moment to ensure no DOA (Death upon arrival), as those are brand new cards.

I've dumped thoughts on a 3-4GPU rig for now.

Would a 550W PSU be enough for 9800GX2 and a Q6600? GTX295 costs too much I think... also I don't know where to look for the 9800gx2's anymore since newegg doesn't carry them anymore and nor does evga the refurbished version...

Also, I'm looking at this mobo:

http://www.newegg.co...82E16813135047R

I sent many queries to their customer support about the slots support double-wide cards but they couldn't come around to understanding my question. I'd just like to have the ability to upgrade to 2 double-width cards later.

They did say something about IO shield specifications. I'm guessing that means the width of the end of the case where the I/O ports are? Maybe I should just not buy a case but I wonder about the dust factor... (there might be a way to keep it clean though)

A quality 550W would be enough. I am currently running 500W with the same setup and no problem at all.
I would not use a ECS mobo, due to their bad reliability. Go with Gigabyte if possible.
Are you in the USA? There are other places that sells refurbished motherboards at great prices.
9800GX2 are great for folding, but it is kind of loud. I am now leaning towards 9600GSO, as they are cheap and low noise.

It's not a quality PSU... low-end I think. Can one damage the PC just by trying?

I would not use a ECS mobo, due to their bad reliability. Go with Gigabyte if possible.

I'd like to know if you no longer think using the cheap boards is at least a distant possibility? (you once said Jetway was an option for Intel processors... and ECS is to my knowledge generally considered to be a bit better...)

How much cash would I be looking to hand over for a 2 slot good board, possibly Gigabyte?

Are you in the USA? There are other places that sells refurbished motherboards at great prices.

No, I'm in this thread because I'm not. I won't have the cash to buy the computer until a few weeks later but how far are you willing to go in helping me acquire the components? If you already know the best deals, and have shipped cards to Sentinel, perhaps you could do it for me as well?

Right - and changing the fan to say, Noctua NF-P12 would not be feasible because then the warranty would be void?
I'd rather avoid 9600GSO because it's performance is bound to suffer even more in the future. With a 4 cards you only get like, what, 12000 PPD on an average protein (vs. 10000-11000 with the 9800GX2)?

9600GSO = 2500PPD to 3300PPD on stock speed
9800GX2 = 8000PPD to 1000PPD stock speed

I don't think shipping power supply is a good idea. It is way too heavy.
I have couple 9800GX2 to let go for $180 if you want.
I personally prefer 9600gso now. As 9800GX2 makes too much noise, and i live in an apartment.
I also have a Gigabyte GA-N650SLI-DS4L motherboard with 650 chipset SLI $45. It has been rock solid.
Let me know what all you will be needing. Price negotiable.

The Gigabyte board looks good.

But aren't you concerned that 9600gso's will become practically useless within say 1 or 2 years? Granted 9800gx2 will lose a lot of value too.

How much would the 9600gso's cost? (2)

I can get new 9600 gso's about $60 - $65. Of course I would test them out 24hrs to make sure it is F@H stable before shipping out internationally.
