There are various times where 3 hours or so after taking resveratrol I feel distrinct pro-love effects. Greater sense of kindness and appreciation towards others.  What might be responsible for this? I also feel more willing to engage in social behavior. More able to write coherently as well.

Unfortunately I cannot take Resveratrol aside from very sparingly because it makes my joint pains worse. It also makes the wrinkles around my eyes more severe. I have lot of low hormone problems and suppressed central nervous system so that may be a factor in my side effects. Likely related to collagen loss.

What alternatives might there be to Resveratrol for the pro-love effects and other benefits?  Resveratrol also sometimes gives me a strikingly more competent and more natural feeling cognitive flow. This is very significant because I normally am riddled with immense brain fog. It feels more natural to write and communicate with people when normally very difficult. Unfortunately this also sometimes accompanies a slightly worse anhedonia. But not always.

Try taking vit D3 to alleviate/fix the tendon issue and note that the RDA has been/is underestimated by a factor of 10.

I would also try a combination of Pterostilbene and Blueberry to see if that has the same effect.

PM me for further info if that helps.

The pro-love / pro-social effects are probably from the other compounds that are found in common 50% resveratrol extract, assuming that's what you're taking.  If you're taking a high purity resveratrol, then it's something else; perhaps a hormonal effect?  Resveratrol has structural similarities to non-steroidal estrogen mimetics like the stilbestrols, and is an agonist of the estrogen receptor.  The impurities in the 50% extracts are known psychostimulants, while the hormonal hypothesis is more iffy.

Your Klotho gene might be impaired and it sounds to me like resveratrol might be attenuating here, lifting the brain fog and giving your wits back. Resveratrol increases Klotho gene expression as do Statins, Vit D3, Activated Vit D (be careful), melatonin, sunshine and exercise.

Resveratrol/Klotho

http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/24911970

Your low hormones might be contributing to the drag on your brain function but that's a separate issue.

It might be worth sending out for a 23 & Me genetic report and running the raw data through Promethease.  It will take a lot of guess work out of what you're trying to put together here. If you have a Klotho gene impairment it will show up and you'll have a better handle on the situation.

BTW what brand of Resveratrol are you using and at what dosage?

I get that effect also even from the synthetic (non-knotweed) variety. Maybe it's the Mao inhibition.

It's likely the estrogen effects. A few years ago when I was taking 300-500mg Resveratrol my face looked noticably cuter, I felt more kind and loving, and I was actually starting to slightly grow breasts which is something that I forgot about. It was small but it was obvious. That is when I started reducing the dose. The wrinkles and joint pains would keep worsening though and that was the final straw.

I used enzymatic 100% trans resveratrol proprietary longevity blend 325mg: *french whole wine grape and giant knotweed root and rhizome extracts containing: Resveratrol 65mg as 100% trans resveratrol,     Japense Sophora Flower Bud Extract standardized to contain 80% rutin (quercitin rutinoside) 75mg.      Who knows what else is in there.

But this brand usually made me feel better than the usual Resveratrol Only formulas. Most of those were 50% and joint pains may have been worse.

Also an important point I'd like to make is that Resveratrol even in small doses (10mg) esp the Proprietary blend makes my vision noticably sharper! And better visual connection. Normally I have bit desaturated and bit blurry vision where the color tones in videos blur together and it looks messy. But this product helps me in this regard. Most supplements do not even touch it.   What might this be?   I don't know what eye condition it is. Might be some form of retinopathy?  There's also some alertness that usually accompanies the sharper vision.

Currently my doses been between 10-20mg but I used to take 300-500+.  I can't risk my wrinkles and joints getting worse which is a real shame because I felt bit more alive than I have in a while on the 2nd night that I took some resveratrol.

I will try if I find cheap pterostilbene to see if there is any change in past effect.   Vit D I will retry.

I had some iffy results with it before. I felt more alert but significantly anhedonic and difficulty experiencing pleasure at various times the Ptero. maybe it was a bad combination with something else but it was a very distinct effect and I wasn't pleased at all.   Maybe bad brand though.  It was PteroBlue.

The literature points to the anthocyanins and polyphenols etc in BB and BB extract being better for the brain than Pt.
I have no idea on which brands are best.

Resveratrol is quickly metabolised, so the effect would be from pro-love/social effects would probably be from a metabolite if you want to research it further.

FWIW, a weightlifters' forum had several users reporting that resveratrol would produce a "woody", helping with a problem sometimes exhibited by those taking steroids.

Hepatic recirculation will produce a secondary peak in serum resveratrol several hours after it is taken orally.

Please don't be silly. I have tried dozens of supplements and dozens of meds.  There is a very distinct and unique sensation with reseveratrol and absolutely beyond any expectation since I have never heard of anyone having this reaction.  Additionally I don't think the breast growth and profound wrinkles around the eyes could be considered placebo.

I tried the D3 but boy did it make me feel darker and more depressed. Was around 200ui-300ui a day but the higher it went the worse I felt.          Wish I had some melatonin to try but don't have any yet.

Have not taken Resveratrol in many days. The benefits are inconsistent plus my stuff is one month expired now.  Sometimes I feel kinder some hours later but other times I feel more anhedonic yet with some sense of focus. What is consistent with it though is the wrinkles around the eyes get Worse every single time.

I'll try to get some cheap blueberry and ptero if I find such a source.

Not sure what's going on here but based on your earlier description of how resveratrol lifted the brain fog(judging by the magnitude of effect you described) I guessed Klotho gene issue. The reason: It's the first time I've ever heard of anyone having such a magnificent nootropic effect from resveratrol alone, almost sounded like its effect was that of a magic bullet targetting a specific area in need of attention( Klotho gene). As I mentioned earlier, resveratrol is one of the substances that attenuates Klotho defeciency.

However, Vit D also attenuates Klotho and if using Vit D made you feel worse then maybe it's not Kolotho gene issue after all.

Getting wrinkles around the eyes from a single dose of resveratrol? Maybe its some sort of allergy?

Getting the 23 & Me genetic report (if funds allow) and running the raw data through Promethease will help save you a lot of time and guess work- right now you're shooting in the dark.  IMO, having these reports will actually save you money in the long run.

Alex,

Are you still using resveratrol? Im getting a somewhat similar experience as you. Have you looked into other pharma/herbs that his estrogen receptors in the brain (ERb, ERa, GPR30).

For what its worth I have a profound response to quercetin too but it seemed to make me sick (AHR agonist, while resveratrol is an antagonist). Both are GPR30 ligands.

ER binding in the brain is also responsible to improving oxytocic neurotransmission (upregulation and better binding) aswell as vasopressin.
