Googling "Science Fiction Longecity," this is the only thread that appears, which seems surprising.

I'd like to read something positive and uplifting in science fiction about a brighter future. Can you suggest any science fiction that doesn't involve war and violence and hatred and future ugliness? Can you name any science fiction that's explorative in nature, happy, maybe even -- OMG so counterculture as to be kind, gentle, and sweet -- maybe even smart and hopeful about humanity's future?

I'm depressed and feeling hopeless, I'm bored with easy dystopian violence.

This may be obvious, but have you read Arthur C Clarke?

Perhaps Rendezvous with Rama.

How about Sagan's Contact

Asimov?

Hi sthira,

I do not have a Sci Fi book recommendation. I am sure there are others like me who saw your post, and wish you well. Very little to say to help. I went through a period a few years ago, where I was done with negative experiences. People, places, books, T.V. and all aspects of such in my life. I still have not gone back. I do not need books or any other inputs that bring me down. I have lived long enough to know that there can be very bad things in life, so I do not need to experience them even as an observer. I guess that I am lucky that I am in a position to do this.

Good luck!
