Brewers yeast earned a lot of attention for it’s high protein, vitamin B and mineral content. In particular it is interesting in my opinion for it’s high amounts of choline which is cognitive enhancer, as well niacin and other precursors for production of NAD+ - most promising antiaging compound. Although there are different varieties of yeast such brewers or nutritional yeast most commonly used for supplements and baker’s yeast.

In livestrong.com it is written that both of these yeasts are made from strains of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae fungus, but each from different strains of this species. Baker's yeast is a blend of several strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae chosen for their flavor and ability to make carbon dioxide, which causes bread to rise. Brewer's yeast is made of strains chosen for their alcohol-producing ability and tends to have a bitter flavor. Nutritional yeast if I’m correct is just brewers yeast which was grown on molasses with added B12.

Brewer’s yeast provides B-complex vitamins as well as many valuable minerals, including calcium, potassium, iron and selenium. It is also one of the richest sources of chromium, which baker's yeast does not contain, and has all of the essential amino acids, which comprise about half its weight.

If both baker‘s and brewers yeasts are of Saccharomyces cerevisiae fungus species than shouldn’t they contain similar nutritional profile? Great yeast nutrients are simply what organism needs to survive.

Baker’s yeast is much easier to find sold in bigger quantities for lower price, almost every shop sells compressed yeast for baking. Pharmacies sell brewer’s yeast tablets but doses are so small that it is not worth wasting money. Nicotinamide riboside is also very expensive so it's better for natural yeast source. Also maybe someone heard even better yeast strains with better nutritional and NAD+ precursor profile?
