Hello everyone,
Greetings from "sunny" Belgium where it's a baking 18 degrees and rain. I hope everyone is well, and managing with the heat (Adi, it must be really terrible in your part of the country...).
Unfortunately there's no local imminst group here so I will just keep lurking on our section of the forums instead :)
I just read Asher Idan's columns on Ynet ( http://www.ynet.co.i...3308413,00.html ) and he would seem a good guy to try and get on board - Ilia, have we ever made contact with him?

Take care everyone, hope to see you all soon,
Danny

Hi, Danny! It’s great to hear from you!

Here it’s only twice that temperature… A melting pot for the brains [lol] The beach is nice though.

Asher looks like a serious guy. To my shame, I never heard of him before. From the link I understood that he deals with AI. Does he have any relation to Imm/LE? Might try to get a presentation from him.

When are you coming to visit? We’ll schedule a special meeting…

Hi Ilia,
Don't really know, but it sounds like he's a futurist and may likely be interested in the field. Should be a very good and interesting speaker, a good addition to the group if we can get him.
I'll be in the country for a few days in a couple of weeks, but the next time after that will probably only be over the Christmas holidays - late December/early January.

See you all (hopefully) then,
Danny

Hi, Guys!
As you know, until now we have had Four great meetings of the Israeli Transhumanist-Immortalist chapter, with fantastic presentations on subjects ranging from the past and future of medicine to uploading to the ethics of life extension.

If anybody wishes to present in our future meetings, please let know. So we can keep this train running!

(me personally, I have the last exam on August 19, so any time after that).

Sorry, Danny, we couldn't meet during your visit. On Crhistmas we will for sure :)

Hi, Adi. Four is when counting our first informal gathering.

Hi, WB, I am looking forward to it too. I do hope we can find good presentations. Or we can just hang out informally :)

Well, peoples.
At present we are a little short on presentations. Lior is willing to give a presentation on the current state of supplementation. That will be somewhere at the end of September, about Friday September 28 (first day of Hol Hamoed Sukkot).
My own phd proposal on the history of life-extensionism has just been approved by the Bar-Ilan authorities. A mazel tov to me. So I might say a couple of words too. I would of course prefer that Daniel presented on Terror management. And of course we can have a portion of the meeting reserved for a general discussion. That’s the plan. Please let me know what you think.
Adi, you have become really laconic lately ;)

I just learned that Lior is going abroad too, and Daniel may need more time to prepare. So let’s postpone it to, say, Friday October 12?

Dear all,

I am delighted to report on the 5th meeting/seminar on immortalism/transhumanism that took place yesterday.

Thanks to all the wonderful people who attended – both the veterans and new members -- Lior, Daniel, Yoni, Tal, Noam, Olga, Maya, Benny, Shimon, Tal, Ilia, Hagay.

Unfortunately, Daniel fell ill and could not present this time. Thus, the seminar rested solely on Lior’s shoulders. Lior gave a fascinating, comprehensive and learned presentation on the current state of supplementation. The survey included the general overview of methods of brain preservation and its role for life extension, possible damages to the brain, methods of brain protection (such as water intake, CR, Fish oil, antioxidant foods, balanced nutrition, cognitive and behavior techniques, and brain protector supplements). The discussion touched on Acetyl-L-Carnitine, Alpha-lipoic-Acid, Omega 3, Ginkgo biloba, Melatonin, Royal Gelly; as well as Conditional Protectors, such as COQ10/Idebenone, Adaptogens, SAMe, L-Deprenyl, BPAP, Rasagiline, Vinpocetine; as well as stress protectors and nootropics, such as Rhodiola Rosea, Ashwaganda, Bacopa Monieri, L-Theanine, Tianpetine, Taurine, piracetam, centrophenoxine, Aniracetam, Pyritinol, Herbal nootropics (bacopa, Ginkgo) and performance enhancers (stimulants e.g. modafinil, Ritalin) and AA Precursors (phenylalanine, Tyrosine, Tryptophan) and many more. The discussion proceeded to the relation between mean and maximum life span, to the role of neuro-hormonal regulation in maintaining body homeostasis and thus life extension, experimental life extension in animal models (by vitamins of the B groups, RNA, chromium). Then the survey moved to Metabolic pathways and requirements: Methylation, Glycation, RNA turnover, nuclear DNA damage and repair, mitochondrial dysfunction, free radicals and anti-oxidants, Redundancy versus Regeneration, telomeres, Sirt and resveratrol, AGE. Further probable anti-aging enzymic cofactors were touched on. Throughout, the importance of careful investigation, caution, individual approach and professional medical consultation have been emphasized. Thanks, Lior!

Thanks again to everybody! Looking forward to the next meeting (hopefully somewhere about the end of December).

IF ANYONE WISHES TO PRESENT IN OUR FUTURE MEETINGS, PLEASE LET KNOW, so we can keep the Israeli life-extensionism/transhumanism going.

As usual, below is our group photo. On request of several participants, identifications are not included. Thanks, guys!
