Why would you feel/notice the effects of single (or a few) amino acids taken in pill form, versus when you drink a protein shake?

I’ve seen this discussed and noticed it myself. For example will get drowsy on 1g taurine taken in a pill (even with food) but would hardly feel it in a whey shake (similar for glycine).

I don’t really understand the concept of free aminos and peptides, could someone shed some light on these concepts?

They share the same transporters in some cases and therefore compete with each other. Some also antagonize each other. Food also can decrease the absorption of chemicals for very obvious reasons, not everything that goes into your mouth is bioavailable especially if the quantity is large. The more you eat = the less of it is bioavailable.

Peptides are proteins which can bind to receptors and cause a cascade of effects in virtue of their amino acid composition.

Peptides have no relevance to the question of the effects of individual amino acids.

Guys since amino acids are a breeding ground for bacteria growth how do I preserve it myself? I have a one time use amino acid injectable that contains no preservatives but I want to use it over a period of time. It is sealed off with those rubber seal things but I'm afraid bacteria will somehow get in. The bottle is 500ml. Can I spray Vitamin C into it and how much would I need to use?

Amino acids should be in their free form so they can be absorbed faster and easier

NAC (N-acetyl cysteine) supplement contains cysteine amino acid in free form and it is combined with N-acetyl therefore your body doesn't need to use the regular protein digestive enzymes to break it apart like when you use whey protein.
