Best supplements for "General Well Being"

With regard to "General Health" 

 

NOT specific to "Brain Health" "Fitness" or otherwise...

 

When I think of general health i think of the cardio respiratory system mostly...

 

But when i think of supplements that pertain to general health i think of 

 

Fish Oil

Vitamin B

A general Multi Vitamin

Magnesium

 

Am I missing anything?

Probiotic - Link , i think the better ones will have this strain - lactobacillus gasseri 

 

I have looked at probiotics to add to my regimen but I"m looking for ones that include the best strains - thank you for pointing out that one.

As for collagen, I"ve never considered it as a supplement but will do some research.

Hopefully the D3 has K2 mixed in, or either your multi has it.  If you search amazon, you will see it is a very common combination.

I think Thorne has the best one, you can get the exact amount you want and it has the more bio-available MK4 K2.  Several good options though.

I would swap out evening fish oil for Wileys orange burst fish oil(its really cod oil - Virgin/Rosita are some alternatives) to get some natural Vitamin A.  Many people dont process beta carotene well.

 

I also usually take a digestive enzymes, especially if cheese or beef is in the meal.

 

Looks like you have most the things on this LIST coverered, keep in mind potassium.

Great idea regarding the cod oil.

 

I actually just purchased some Potassium and Lithium...although I have to be careful with the lithium considering I take psychotropic medication - I want to do some more research regarding interactions before I try it. I've heard nothing but good things about it though.

If you think collagen is too expensive (I have very little experience with such supps) then you can just buy a few kilogram bags of glycine for a couple of bucks. Glycine is to a large extent what collagen is made of. I think glycine is great for sleep, balancing out excitatory/inhibitory impulses, and maybe general well-being. I've been taking it for a long time and it seems to just like magnesium work well over the long term. I take maybe 5-10 grams of glycine per day.

I can second garlic (raw). The easiest way I've found to eat raw garlic is put it on roasted bread with some olive oil and squeeze a few (or many) cloves. Much easier than just chewing the cloves. But there is little ways of getting rid of the smell, it sticks with me (usually) for about 30 hours if I eat a lot of it.

D3 at 5-6k IU/d is probably the last supp (and magnesium) that I actually feel something from (or did anyway when I started and most likely was deficient ) and is presumably consistent.

Unless we go into my pharmaceutical stack (not really a stack) which has much more obvious effects. edit: forgot fulvic acid, that is a great modest energy boost and boost to peripheral blood flow.

Though vitamin D is important, I tend to think of asthaxanthin as a great supplement for general and overall health. It's one of my favorite ones to take. I feel generally better when on it. Besides that, I would 100% say NMN for overall health, fitness and well-being. I also agree with Keizo on the glycine. It's another of my favorite supplements and I take it nightly. It helps produce collagen and helps me to fall asleep and sleep more soundly.

If you eat a healthy and varied diet, almost all supplements for 'general wellbeing' are useless. (There may be other things you want to take to target a specific thing). However I believe our 'Western diet/lifestyle' may be missing 2 important ones that supplementing may benefit from

 

Those are Vitamin D3 and K2

 

D3 because we spend a lot of time indoors and wear protection when we are out. Winter time adds to the problem

 

K2 because our western diets have little to none of this nutrient. - That said, I believe if you can find an Asian grocery that sells Natto, this is the better way to get this nutrient

 

One other thing I might add that I do take on occasion and that is potassium. To get the RDI of potassium requires a lot of food. Keto diets or low calorie diets in an attempt to lose weight may leave people short of this.

So true about D3 & K2. Some of us also don't get enough variety and that's me anyway. I think supplements can help with that a little bit.
