Are there any supplements you can recall which do this?

Alcohol? Coffee?
I would be really cautious with reducing sleep quality. I'm working night shifts, experimented with eating at nights to cheat biological clocks. Big mistake it was.
Cutting on coffee, carbs, reducing feeding window to 6 or less hours, taking cold showers helps with mood and energy levels a lot.

I'll look into this
but I assumed you wanted to increase REM and shorten short wave

Speaking from personal experience, the following help me with my excessive REM due to having Narcolepsy. Exercise a lot of caution with GabaB agonists:
Phenibut
CBD (Thc should help too but it has a rebound effect and only works for about 2ish hours)
Baclofen
Xyrem/GHB
Lowering stress

For people reading in the future who suspect they have excessive REM and want to experiment with increasing NREM / Slow wave (often skewed in narcolepsy, depression etc), what you want to look for are safe 5HT antagonists

Korean red panax ginseng slightly increases stage 3 NREM in humans over 2 weeks, 4500mg non extract split into 3 daily doses. and also increased REM latency by a lot, but so did placebo for some reason

10mg/kg extract in rats over 5 days significantly increased NREM (like 1.6mg/kg extract human dose)

cordycepin from cordyceps significantly increased NREM & significantly decreased REM in rats over 5 days, around 0.32mg - 0.64mg / kg human dose. (but no cordycepin isolated product available yet, not sure if other compounds in cordyceps would mess with this if you could get a high enough cordycepin % anyway).
