I have been researching the role of dopamine in aging for several years. My first goal as psychologist was to analyze the relationship between dopamine and longevity-related personality traits. But as I investigated, I realized that this neurotransmitter was involved in many factors other than aging. Not only in motivation and impulsivity, but also in the possible etiology of Alzheimer's, the immune system, some tumors, and even genes related to longevity such as DR4 receptors. Also in the possibility of lengthening life as demonstrated by Joseph Knoll with deprenyl. All this information, plus the analysis of why we age, the other elixirs of eternal youth such as rapamycin, spermidine or epigenetics among others, the theories of aging, etc. it is part of my research. I hope that next week the book will be published on Amazon. I'm from Spain, so unfortunately it will only be in Spanish. If you want more information here: https://dopaminaging.com/  Thank you all, I will keep you informed

Following a bit with my thesis that dopamine is key in aging, I was recently reviewing this research https://www.cell.com...674(20)31301-5 that was reported at the time here in the news section. The striosomes, connected with the dopamine of the substantia nigra, will modulate decision-making: if it is worth getting up from the couch to go to the gym or we prefer to be a couch potato. It is becoming increasingly clear to me how the gradual loss of dopamine robs us of illusion, motivation and the possibility of experiencing pleasure, pushing us to the prostration of old age.

I think it’s funny you view dopamine as anti aging.  Right around when you posted this I’ve been doing heavy research on the affects of dopamine beyond the brain.  It actually repairs and maintains epidermal tissue. Great for skin health.   Furthermore I have reason to believe in MEN peripheral dopamine can stop male pattern baldness.  Furthermore dopamine increases testosterone levels in man.

I did not know about the effects on the skin, but I did about testosterone, in fact, in my book there is a chapter dedicated to the rejuvenating effects of love and sex thanks to dopamine and testosterone. During the years that I was researching to write the book, I discovered incredible things, such as the possible genesis of Alzheimer's due to the degradation of dopamine https://www.ncbi.nlm...les/PMC6534044/ or the importance of dopamine in the immune system, see for example: https://pubmed.ncbi....h.gov/25728499/

Interesting. Especially given that tyrosine promotes both dopamine and testosterone, and influences the longevity of flies--

By comparing metabolic changes in control and long-lived flies during aging, we identified the amino acid tyrosine and the tyrosine degradation pathway as potential targets for lifespan extension. Supplementing flies with tyrosine or whole-body and tissue-specific downregulation of tyrosine aminotransferase/TAT, the first and rate-limiting enzyme in the tyrosine degradation pathway, significantly extended lifespan.

The effect on longevity isn't robust, however, and supplementing too much reduces lifespan even more than the goldilocks amount increases it.
