　
PS: perhaps Sirtris want to deemphasize resveratrol for life extension. Who will pay for an expensive prescription medicine if low-cost extract from a weed does the same thing?
The problem is that it wouldn't be just one medicine, but if it worked it would be a whole host of medicines taken out by an unpatentable substance from which not much profit can be directly obtained.
That's why the biogerontology literature keeps somberly saying stuff like "caloric restriction (CR) is the only intervention repeatedly demonstrated to retard the onset and incidence of age-related diseases, maintain function, and extend both lifespan and health span in mammals, including brain and behavioral function" (2), even tho' supplement vendors keep making contrary claims for everything from selenium to BHT.
Resveratrol does appear to delay the onset and incidence of age related diseases. In many strains and animals it's even resulted in life extension. Why it may fail to extend in some may be for failure to address main cause of death(or compromised methods, or existing conflict of interests).
