I am a twitter noob, and I am not sure the best way to use this trendy application, but I know it can be used for promoting events or projects....or funding drives. I was just wondering who here has a twitter account that would be willing to promote significant Imminst initiatives. Let me know.

Yeah I've never used twitter either, but everyone says it's the largest social network even bigger than Facebook!

Do we have any groups or something there?

might be useful for the Sunday presentation/chats, if you want to multi-task with two channels/windows (1. ustream 2. twitter).

it's kind of like a mass-SMS system. convenient way to connect to an individual or an organization and get hyper-updates, almost like press releases on steroids. i guess twitter helps the traditional 24 hr news cycle condense down to 15 second increments.... oh boy.

Good to know you have a twitter account Devon. Just hold on for now. I was hoping to promote the laser funding in the near future. I would like to do this in a coordinated manner. So stay tuned.

Ok, sounds good. I will be happy to promote the laser ablation project in my Twitter account if you deem it necessary.

1. Mind_Imminst, only 26 followers
2. Imminst
3. Devon
4. We need a few more people

So we need a standard twitter message if we are going to attempt this (later this week). I know it can only be 140 characters. If anyone can come up with a good example, please post it here.

How about "Support important longevity research. Destroying cellular junk with lasers. http://www.imminst.org/archive/articles/la...rch-grant"

Or "Help battle age-related disease. A research grant: http://www.imminst.org/archive/articles/la...rch-grant"

On the second one, we could insert different diseases related to AGE build-up, and send out updates on a couple different days.

Also, anyone out there who is willing to put the research grant in your facebook status update, list yourself here. This is another popular application that we should be able to use to spread the message outside our normal circle of advocates.

Perhaps you are excited about the potential of this research to illuminate the role of lipofuscin in lifespan and cell disfunction but you hardly have a dime to your name. You can still help out a great deal by helping promote the matching grant. This is as important as giving money. Please, please consider helping out by using your twitter or facebook account to make mention of the funding drive. If you can help out, list yourself here and we will see if we can put together a coordinated effort on Thursday and Friday of this week.

If you are going to use your facebook status, perhaps include a personal message indicating why you support this research. Maybe you like the potentially high reward nature of the research if it is successful. Maybe you would like to highlight the fact that it will be conducted by the SENS Foundation. Whatever it is, your personal touch could be effective in getting more people to donate a few dollars.

I'll be putting it on my facebook wall.

I'll also be doing miscellaneous recruiting for those two days. If anybody wants to collaborate then meet me in the chat box on those days.

Hey mind, I think what would be most interesting would be to have a twitter account devoted to news updates dealing with resveratrol or anything else fairly exeptional/news worthy that's brought up on this site. As opposed to mainly just sending out invites for events/chats etc.

Cheers,
Crep

Ive sent this out some today and will be doing it all day tomorrow. Do you want me to start a myspace and facebook cause application for this? If so, then what bank account route/ beneficiary should I link it too? I can link it through the imminst guidestar account. You said you prefer that it all goes to one central place though. If thats what you prefer over guidestar then how do I link it to that account? If its much more complicated than it is to link it to guidestar then you should consider setting them up, then I can help spread the word for them. Im also going to be promoting using other methods too. Ill go through my email contacts, and see if I can find some forums with people talking about lipofuscin and related stuff, and strike up a convo about this.

Thanks to everyone who used their accounts to promote the grant. Even though the forums were down much of Thursday, we received 2 new donations.

Sorry Mind I was incapacitated the past few days. But if you want I can surely advertise it now, that is if it will help at all. I don't see why not right?

Yes, go ahead Devon. I would suggest not sending out too many messages. I only sent out an update twice, thus avoiding the appearance of spamming. I think we should plan for another social networking blast in August, close to the end of the funding drive.

I just posted. Maybe we shouldn't say life extension or anti aging. I just said support aging research. Is this being disingenuous?

"Support Aging Research". That is perfectly fine.

So, is anybody else here interested in discussing some imminst twitter possibilities? Is anybody around here good at using twitter, fluent with it, and like to use it? We can set up a project for this, and create a monthly minimum for a twitter volunteer. Performing this monthly minimum is simple, schedule flexible, and has high impact reward. That reward is that it inspires more volunteers at this crucial stage in volunteer growth. We can sky rocket, or fall flat, it all depends on how many of us initially volunteer.

Then there are also small incentives. As a volunteer a person gets entered in the monthly prize drawing. They also get their name published in sources like the imminst.org/newsletter.

Who is it that created and runs the twitter.com/imminst page? I forget.

We are looking for an interested candidate or two to help run this twitter page. It would be a flexible, low time commitment schedule with high impact rewards such as getting the word out, and inspiring more volunteers. Then also the small incentives, you would be entered in the volunteer prize drawing every month and have your name go in the imminst.org/newsletter

We are considering putting outreach like this, facebook outreach, media outreach, and the only currently running branch of it which is the VIP Outreach, all under one sub heading called something like "Outreach" with their own sub forums with in.

@silverton originally created the Imminst twitter page, but he does not manage it. People who manage the Imminst facebook fan page should also manage the twitter account.

Apologize that I wasn't able to do more, at least we did secure the brand, early on. I just received an email from twitter, asking to confirm change of official account ownership, so came here to confirm it's originating from leadership. Sounds like that's a go, so will approve ASAP with gratitude for the initiative to take it to the next level. Onward!

Aubrey is in need of help for his SENS and MF Twitter and Facebook pages. If anyone would like to help, and could do an excellent job then please respond here, or in the other thread I've got going on that subject here. http://www.imminst.o...mp;#entry392809
