When I listened to David Sinclair, he stated that his sister became fertile again after going into menopause. Does NMN reverse menopause?

Yes, that's what he said here:

Normally I don't give much weight (if any) to anecdotal evidence, but reversing menopause is much more black and white than "I feel better" type of reports.  And coming from Dr Sinclair it is interesting for sure.  He is certainly biased, but is very high profile and it is hard to imagine him just making this up.

It is not an unexpected result, as one of the things they have demonstrated in mice is, fertility in "old" mice, which they talk about in this video.  Around 2:00 mark

I don't believe that he is correct.  A female is born with all of the eggs she's ever going to have, and when she's through menopause her supply of eggs is exhausted.  Simply restarting the monthly bleeding cycle - which some women have experienced when taking hormone replacement therapy -  isn't restoring fertility because there is zero change of pregnancy.  To maintain fertility, we'd have to figure out a way to slow down the body's process of releasing one (or more) eggs each month until the supply is gone or convince the body to produce more eggs after exhausting the original supply.  I didn't hear Dr. Sinclair say that NMN is doing either of those things.

Ryukenden,

Thank you for bringing this up! This is exactly why I'm taking NR/NMN. I'm not menopausal yet but am hoping to reverse ovarian aging to have a second child (I met my partner in my 40s). I've been discussing this in other (fertility-focused) forums, and there are lots of women taking NR with the same hope. Sinclair seems to believe upregulation of NAD reverses menopause / restores fertility to the extent that he has patents for fertility-restoring drugs using NMN (https://patents.goog...2013002880A1/es) and has co-founded a company called JumpStart Fertility (https://lifebiosciences.com/companies/)

Here is a link to the original interview with Sinclair that generated all this interest (his interview is around 7:00): http://www.abc.net.a...ies/4485468.htm (or Google "Catalyst: Live Long Die Young - ABC TV Science")

Able,

I agree with you! Sinclair is biased in that he has a financial interest, but it also doesn’t seem likely that a scientist as high-profile and well-respected as him would share false (or unproven) information. I think he is careful to explain that his sister-in-law’s case is just one person’s experience, but that it may point to something interesting. The reason his drugs are not out yet is because he is going through the FDA, and using rigorous evidence-based research methods. So, I think his interest is legit!

Quiz,

What you mentioned is definitely the conventional wisdom about ovaries and eggs, but the whole concept is now being revisited and it may not actually be true. There has been quite a bit of research in the last 5 years that points toward the possibility that women can produce new eggs and are not born with all the eggs they will ever have (and if this is true it may account for the fact that some women do have spontaneous pregnancies and births in their mid- and late-40s).

Here are a few newspaper/blog articles about this research (let me know if you’d like to see the original scientific articles, I can dig them up):

http://www2.technolo...egg-stem-cells/

https://www.bbc.com/...health-17152413

https://www.theguard...n-grow-new-eggs

There are now a few fertility startups (like OvaScience) and clinics/practitioners (like the Center for Advanced Genetics) that are doing stem-cell-based trials that hope to help older women generate new eggs.

Fingers crossed for those of us who hope for this!

Take care all,

N

Here's another article that describes the PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) and ENPLAF (Enriched Platelet Factors therapy) are being used in fertility clinics to restore oogenesis and allow women to produce new eggs. This was first done in Greece but is done in a limited market in the US as well. So, there seems to be a lot of research banking on the idea that women can produce new eggs.

Sorry, that is somewhat off topic from NMN, but with the same goal. Personally, I am taking NR and NMN as Sinclair did see mice produce new eggs (or repair their existing ones... see the video I linked to above) but may try PRP as well.

Do you have a personal interest in menopause reversal?

Sinclair has a habit of hyping things. My wife reversed menopause for two months. Then back to menopause again. Taking NR at younger age will extend fertile years and could push menopause into 60’s.

Yes I think it is good for ladies including my wife. She doesn’t have menopause yet but I hope supplements will postpone ladies’ menopause as long as possible or even reverse it for those who have had menopause.

NightBlueFruit, hi, I too am interested in this.  I'm not in menopause yet but I'm 48 so it's around the corner.  I've not had kids and not planning to, but I'm interested in this for what I perceive to be health benefits.

Can I ask why you chose both NR and NMN and wondering if you had to choose, which would it be?  I know that's a very basic question, I'm still trying to decide which to order.

Good afternoon.

I have been trying to find information about others having the same experience using NMN, Resveratrol (TMP), etc. as me.  I have been taking ProHealth Longevity Pro Complete 3-in-1 Formula: NMN + Trans-Resveratrol & TMG 75g in powder form with water every morning for the past 6 months or so. I also take 2 Metformin pills at night along with my Armour 90mg of Thyroid meds daily. I take a lot of other supplements as well. I am 57 years old and I have been on HRT for the past few years, recently switched to the Pellet (9 months ago) and I take a progesterone pill to protect my uterus as I still have all my parts.

I went through menopause incredibly early - 38 years old to be exact.  At the time, the doctors said I didn't want more kids... and this was a fertility issue... so they did nothing.  I went on HRT at 50 after a decade of misery.  HRT was great for me but it's hard to get the exact hormone combo right. I went in search of solutions and found Dr. Sinclair and I basically take everything he does plus my HRT.

The kicker... I started menstruating's again at 57... after 20 years without a period. I saw where he stated his sister restarted but I haven't found anyone who restarted after 20 years.  Please note I have appointment with my doctor to rule out other causes and if anyone wants to follow along I'll share the results.

Does anyone know of any others who started their periods again after being in menopause for so many years? I'd be interested to compare notes.

Thanks!

Kristin
