Hi folks,

I am already taking Butyrate for it's anti-aging benefits, especially HDAC inhibition.  In the news today, we have a new study for a very similar molecule in the same pathway, B-Hydroxybutyrate:

The article is about its ability to slow down atherosclerosis, etc. something we should all be interested in.

The thing is that both of these molecules are very similar.  They are both in the same pathway, they are both HDAC inhibitors, and both have numerous other documented beneficial effects.  Also, both are readily available as supplements.

Can anyone provide any reasons, or studies, that might make an argument for choosing one over the other?

Remember if you take butyrate as a supplement bound to a mineral like calcium or magnesium that this metabolizes rapidly in the intestine and will probably not change systemic levels of butyrate.  To change systemic levels you would probably need the triglyceride form tributyrin.

Butyrate should be capable of transforming to BHB.   What percentage would convert and under what conditions?   Maybe someone can answer that?

I hope you understand that BHB is ketones....

If you want to prevent atherosclerosis, trying avoiding the pathogens it is linked to, which include cytomegalovirus1 Helicobacter pylori 1 and Chlamydia pneumoniae1

BHOB probably more beneficial because you could reach millimolar concentrations in the blood
