Hello all,

Since the beginning of the year I've been sending out a monthly email to family and friends with my take on the biggest longevity advances of the preceding month, as well as an attachment containing links to the main papers connected to various supplements published that month. It is a labour of love and takes me on average five days to put together as I trawl through Pubmed and other sources.

It just occurred to me that I could post them in the blog section of this site and that they might be of interest to some of you.

I won't go into the rational here for choosing these supplements, suffice to say that I take most of them. They are in alphabetical order:

Astaxanthin

Curcumin

Fisetin

Nicotinamide Mononucleuotide

Nicotinamide Riboside

Pterostilbene

Resveratrol

Spermidine

Non-Supplement: Rapamycin & Senolytics

Also papers concerning nutrition, fasting & exercise.

Here's a link to May's newsletter: https://www.longecit...ngevity-review/

And the index page: https://www.longecit...ity-newsletter/

I would love to receive feedback, both positive and negative, as my friends and family never say anything more than "thanks for that!". :|?

The July edition of my newsletter has now been posted. Now that my teaching schedule has gone from feast to famine, it shouldn't take quite as long before I post the August update.

Hi mkp6019,

Unfortunately there are none that I am aware of - I get my Spermidine from a couple of tea spoons of wheat germ in my berry & nut mix breakfast (delicious!). There is however a supplement company set up by the leading researchers in this field based in Austria:

https://shop.thelongevitylabs.com/en

They appear to ship internationally, though I have not contacted them directly. It also is a concentrated wheat germ supplement, though I have not worked out how much normal wheat germ I would have to eat in order to get the same dose as their capsules!

Chris,

Are there any commercial supplements for Spermidine available in US.?

There is this:

https://www.rpicorp....e-base-5-g.html

I asked them about the source of the spermidine to which they answered: "The product is manufactured by chemical synthesis."

It is good to know there are options for increasing spermidine. I may stick to wheat germ as the most cost effective way to increase dose. Good that we got out of this discussion without any juvenile humor.

Hi - just posted my latest newsletter, complete with really weird formatting. Spent the last couple of hours trying to post it, but it kept on telling me it was too long, so I had to cut out a few sections until the preview would accept it. Then when I tried to format it correctly, it once again told me it was too long! After several failed attempts of trying different ways I gave up, re-imported it from Word, cut out what I had to & left the strange formatting.

Hope it's still readable.

Chris

Hi Sedentary,

I get my spermidine from wheat germ! Wheat germ has the highest concentration of spermidine in food at up to 243 mg/kg according to Wikipedia. I add a couple of heaped teaspoons into my berry & nut breakfast, which tastes well together. Wheat germ is also incredibly cheap  :)

There is an Austrian supplement company which sells it as well founded by the main researchers into spermidine: https://shop.thelongevitylabs.com/en

Hi,

The issue reported above about my September newsletter has now been resolved. Admin has given me more space, so I've put back what I had to cut out and improved the formatting.

well, ill probably try a source without wheat. ive tried wheat germ in the past with no benefits, but actually i didnt feel too good perhaps maybe its related to wheat not being my comfort food? anyway, the url provided looks interesting. so 2 caps is 800mg wheat germ is 1mg spermidine. is this a good amount? because the price is quite high whoa. how much spermidine would one need? i assume maybe at least 3mg a day? its kind of expensive, i think.

Hi Sedentary,

I don't think that the effective dose has been found out yet, which is why I'm not being too precise in my own dosage. Because spermidine is found in many foods, simply by eating a healthy plant dominant diet, I'm assuming that I'm getting a fair amount anyway. The extra few spoonfuls of wheat germ is just to make sure that my intake is in the higher end of the spectrum.

Hi,

Thank you  for your posts.

They sell wheat germ oil softgels in health stores. Does wheat germ Oil contain spermidine?

Thanks.

Hi April 20,

I'm afraid I don't know! I just did a quick search and couldn't find anything, but it stands to reason that the oil also must contain some spermidine. How much however, unfortunately I can't say.
