I have been reading some good things about hydroxyapatite toothpaste as an avenue to enamel restoration.  Hydroxyapatite is the primary constituent of enamel and dentin, which makes it an obvious choice for remineralization.  However, I cannot help but wonder if simply brushing with good toothpaste isn't enough.  It seems to me that the best chance for true restoration would be to keep significant hydroxyapatite in contact with the teeth for hours.  One way to do that would be to fill up a mouthguard or retainer and then wear it overnight.

Has anyone else considered such an idea?  Is there any known reason not to try something like that?
