Greetings everyone!

No, Europe is not left out with life extension! Time for a concert in summer 2009!
So please come, invite your friends, create the event!: it is time to support life extension, to meet each other, to see who's who, to support existing projects and develop new ones, or simply to enjoy music and a nice atmosphere.

It is called "Life Aid Against Aging"

Healthy Life Extension Society (HEALES) is a non-profit organization seated in Brussels that is devoted into promoting biogerontological research and every techniques that can lead to life extension. It is in particular supported by Aubrey de Grey and the Methuselah Foundation and the Immortality Institute.

We should at least have 500 to 1000 people who come to the concert.

The WTA (Humanity+) is also interested.

I was thinking on donating the profits to lysoSENS research.

As a place I was thinking on a grassland in Brussels.

The music groups who I have contacted:
- Absynthe Minded
- Mogwai (unable to come)
- The Stokes
- Ghinzu
- Bloc Party

I would like to invite dr. de Grey to give a small lecture between different music
groups. Dr. de Grey would be able to reach a public that otherwise wouldn't come to
listen to his speeches. So, I think this concert is an excellent way to reach new people.

Is there a Facebook set up for promoting this? I could then send an invite to my European friends.

We need a lot of details yet. A date perhaps? Cost?

SENS4 is September 3-7 in Cambridge. It would be nice to have the concert and/or an Imminst conference in Europe at or near SENS4.

If there is a minimum of one or tow relevent band coming for the concert, it could be interesting for the 13000 students of cambridge. But is September a good period for the spent of a ticket concert ? If the cost is high...
Brussels is the preious place for it but A.De grey might be more well know in the area of Cambridge and through the students there. I don't think somebody not envolved in extention life will spend for for train+hotel+concert.

What do you think about ?

The goal of a concert is to attract young people who aren't interested, or don't know anything about life extension, and to bring them in contact with it trough a concert. They would just come to listen to the music but meanwhile we can introduce life extension to them.

1) Place
- Amsterdam
- Brussels
- Paris

Nobody of us lives in Amsterdam of Paris. But Didier lives in Brussels and I live close
to Brussels. It would be easier if it was done in Brussels because then we would be able
to spend much more time searching for sponsors and companies that offer the equipment
(stage, light- and music equipment,...) for the best prize. We should also try to
convince people to lend equipment to us for free.

Outside or inside? Because I would prefer to do it in the summer (see
point 2) I believe it would be best to do it outside. This would make
it less expensive (grassland is cheaper to rent than a room).
It could be done in a stadium.

2) Date

I prefer August. This would give us enough time to organize it and
young people are free (no school).

3) Music groups

I would prefer to invite some well known band(s) (these would draw
public) and mix them with some smaller bands. I would prefer not to
have extreme genres of music (e.g. techno).

- Bloc party
- The Calling
- The Strokes
- Ghinzu
- Absynthe Minded
...

Mogwai has an exclusive contract and isn't able to come.
Absynthe Minded is unable before the summer and in August (due to an exclusivity
contract with large festivals).

4) Cost

I'm still waiting for information about the cost. After I have an idea about the cost
then I will search for the money. I hope to do this before 7 February because then
we will have a board meeting.

The costs would be paid by:
- Donations to Heales
- Other life extension organisations (Imminst, Humanity+,...???)
- Private sponsors (companies, shops,...)
- I would organize a diner and the profits would be used to pay the concert.

5) I would like to invite dr. de Grey to give a small lecture between
different music groups. Dr. de Grey would be able to reach a public
that otherwise wouldn't come to listen to his speeches. So, I think
this concert is an excellent way to reach new people.

Dr. de Grey will need to have a projector, so we could use it to project slogans (for
example: "President Bill Clinton: we want to live forever and we're getting there") and
pictures (logo Heales, methuselah foundation and imminst) on the big screen.

6) Profits

I would suggest that we donate the profits to lysoSENS.

7) Selling

We should also sell some things like:

- Ending aging
- T-shirts from heales, MF, imminst,...
- Drinks
- Food

Hey everybody, I think this is a great idea, it's very important to approach the public with something that is entertaining too.

The questions I have for now..

1. How big and accessible is the area where you want to organise the concert?
2. We need one or two popular musicgroups, since I don't live in Belgium, what popular artists do you have in mind?
3. What is the maximum compensation you want to give to the musicgroups (depending on their quality/popularity)?
4. I guess we need something more concrete regarding stirring interest up for longevity research and the negative reality of aging, what are your thoughts on doing so?
5. I have some friends who are quite popular in the region I live, they are a punkrockband and always give amazing energetic shows. Their target group is mostly youth aged between 13 and 18 years old. This week I had a conversation about this concert, and they were very interested in promoting our organization(s). Would it be an idea to have them come over to Belgium too, or do you think we should invite only Belgian musicgroups?

1) Place

Brussels is the best option, at the crossing of europe so more choice in transportation.

Nobody of us lives in Amsterdam of Paris. But Didier lives in Brussels and I live close

as you said... :)

Outside or inside? ....It could be done in a stadium.

A statdium ? It depends on the coast but yes and outside is prefereble but what about the weather in summer there ?

2) DateI prefer August. This would give us enough time to organize it and
young people are free (no school).

We have also to afford the date of another festival like rock en seine or ... :)

4) Cost
The costs would be paid by:
- Donations to Heales
- Other life extension organisations (Imminst, Humanity+,...???)
- Private sponsors (companies, shops,...)
- I would organize a diner and the profits would be used to pay the concert.

Maybe we can list organism to contact.

5) I would like to invite dr. de Grey to give a small lecture between

that otherwise wouldn't come to listen to his speeches

That remind me Nelson Mandela ;)

Dr. de Grey will need to have a projector, so we could use it to project slogans (for
example: "President Bill Clinton: we want to live forever and we're getting there") and
pictures (logo Heales, methuselah foundation and imminst) on the big screen.

Give SENS to life !!!!
Donnons du Sens à la vie !!!

7) Selling
- Ending aging
- T-shirts from heales, MF, imminst,...

Ok but following a booking....

:)

The idea of a concert is genial! Brussel seems a good idea geografically, the weather in June and July should be pleasant, but with scattered showers sometimes. What about London? There are a lot of local underground groups that could beef up the concert without cost. Or at least I hope, I'm not much of a musical expert!

I agree with s123,
what if you give the Heales logo an another place like in the right corner? (top)
and make the logo more visible? :)

1) Logo
Hop! I modified the logo online so the new logo appears in my post above.
The previous logo is at http://www.longecity...ogoConcert1.GIF

2) Groups
- Would undergroup groups really make the concert without cost in London!? Is so yes that's a good place to start
- Not quite sure but i might have a contact for the Kelly Family

3) Threads about the concert
Anyone to create a thread in MF? It is better if it is not me so that people don't think it's only one/a few persons involved in that concert. What about regional threads? (eg German by Kismet, Dutch by Jedi, French by fonclea,...) Since Heales will mostly touch Europe it is nice that several languages are discussed

1) about the logo: that is better, I I have one thing to ask: could you place the name of Heales under the logo?

3) I have posted a topic in the dutch section, but I think most of the discussion about the concert will be in this topic.
I haven't an account on MF, mabey someone else could open a topic on MF

Done, as you can see above. Do you want some parts of the image so that you can improve it?

I think so too, but it probably helps in generating the community in Europe.
Shall i open the new topic in MF then?

An organization chart: we should start to list who want to be concretly part and then decided together how we can help deepending on the time and ability. (How can i help ? :) )
A web site through the one we can update/collect infos, sell tickets, make advertisings and propose the logos, slogans,... Who want to help with that ?

I have exams in January, so I won't have much time.
The next meeting of the board of directors of Heales is in February.
I will keep looking for music groups and financial donors.
We need money to organize this festival, so ideas for raising funds are also needed. I already proposed to organize a diner.
Do we need a website just for life aid or could we just use the website of Heales?

That is ok. Could you give me large parts of the logo?

While i was looking for a new phone i saw an advertising on a T-Mobile mag.
I looked at the web site here : http://www.t-mobile....lity/recycling/

Basically you can sell your old phone and give the monney for a charity you want... ;)

I am sure many of us have an old phone not in use we can sell.
(i left a similar threat on the UK forum)
