Insane...

Atlas Folding

It's roughly $3k USD for the rig. The bigger issue is the 1124 Watts it draws. Ouches!

Some of the critical components...

GeForce GTX 295 1792MB 896 (448 x 2)-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16

COOLER MASTER Real Power Pro RS-C50-EMBA-D2 1250W ATX Form Factor 12V V2.3

MSI K9A2 Platinum AM2+/AM2 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard

I don't think the high cost could be justified if one is looking for best bang for the buck machine.
The amount of heat generated is going to be a pain to move it.
I have 4x 9800GT GPU machine, with the case open, but it is still VERY HOT when I touch the case.
The CPU cores are about 90-100C.

True. The good news is that the arrival of these is driving down the cost and leading to more of the lesser cards being dumped on the market as people upgrade.

Are you overclocking them and folding on the CPUs too? I haven't been...Don't have time to muck with all that session affinity stuff and stability issues.

I used to overclock my cards and CPU, but due to instability issues, it drives me insane.
Now with all my machines configured with WinXP made with nLite, and running at stock speeds, the folders haven't gave me any problems!
Everything is smooth for about a week now. No hangs, no restarts, no hiccups.
I would suggest everyone who runs multiple machines to run them at stock.
When you Overclock, you might think it is stable now, but when summer comes, it won't be.

I feel your pain. At any given time 1/4 of my rigs are down for various reasons. I finally had a block of time to go through and troubleshoot all the problematic ones.

Quad-SLI GTX 295....that's approximately 6800 MB of VRAM. Personally I think the GeForce 2 series are overpriced. I could find an ATI 4870 HD GX2 1 GB GDDR5 for only $200, but the Nvidia 280 costed around $450 at the same time and performed about as well. The thing that the ATI 4 series lacks is CUDA, but I don't think that CUDA should add another $250 onto a card's cost.

I agree but they have to pay for all their R&D somehow. Larrabee will be here soon and nVidia may have a tough time competing as a stand alone.

He spent $9500 for it.
