Longecity management has allocated $400 grants for Longecity "local events". I suggest a local meet-up/party in the midwest (U.S.). I know we have a good number of members in Chicago and Minneapolis. I would be willing to travel to either large city for a social gathering. If anyone would prefer some other city, such as those suggested in the poll, please state your reasoning. The larger cities are probably better.

What kind of meet-up? I was thinking something rather informal. Meet at some local "establishment", have drinks and snacks, do some networking.

Sadly I am in UK so couldn't make anything like this but should something like this arise here and I'm not already booked/working, I'd up for an informal gathering. :)

No one wants to hang-out and chill. The poll has been up for two days and no votes. I should have put the poll in the supplement section, lol.

Maybe we should have free nootropics instead of "snacks, drinks, and networking", then maybe someone might be interested, lol.

I voted for Minneapolis because I haven't been there in a while.

It is troublingly quiet...I'd have thought at least a small group of people would have been interested. We've had quiet meets on other forums unrelated to life extension but never zero.

The majority of people perhaps do not vote, because they are not from USA ?

Actually, I know there are dozens of LongeCity members/users in the Midwest. Maybe I just need to publicize this poll a little more.

I might get flamed for this suggestion, but how about Vegas (even though it doesn't have the best reputation for healthy lifestyles)? There are a number of reasons why Las Vegas is a popular convention city:

1.) Cheap air flights to Vegas compared to other cities
2.) Cheap room rates
3.) Cheap meals
4.) Lots of entertainment
5.) Gambling (for those that flunked mathematics)

It would probably draw a larger crowd than most other cities. NYC would be my second suggestion as a "city magnet", but you would have to scratch the cheap air fare, rooms, and meals for NYC and replace "cheap" with "expensive". Just a suggestion...

Voted for Chicago, but I'd like to see a Philly meet up if there are enough members.

Actually Vegas doesn't seem like a bad idea. We could even have a one night adults only party at a bunny ranch. Maybe get group discounts on drinks, activities. and ladies. I think the bunnies would be very interested in our lifestyle as we are trying to remain young and healthy and such a lifestyle would increase a bunny's wages not to mention fill in the gap of female immortalists. I like this idea. LV attracts many people, even the bunnies are from distant places.

Dubai is a beautiful city. I'd love to see a middle eastern immortality movement! We need a global day with count around party like new years has.

The idea here is for a LongeCity meet-up near where I live, thus the options in the poll. I am not wealthy enough to fly to a different part of the world or the U.S. no matter how fun it might be. For those of you who would like to have a meet-up somewhere else in the country or world, YOU can also apply for a LongeCity grant of $400.

With Heales we made a longevity party that didn't have many people (though you were there, Mind), possibly because it was not well advertised. Then we made a congress; I think it is about as hard to organise about people get to know researchers and learn things they like. Both certainly have advantages: perhaps for those who go to the party, you can propose to make presentations there, and there could be a day for presentations and then it's the party. Just an idea.

It looks like Chicago is the winner! If we are going to have a meet-up, it looks like that is where we might get the most participation. I can bring my wife and maybe BrokenPortal too, for a larger group. ILA is suggesting having some "longevity" meet-ups on March 1st, which is world future day. We could schedule our meet-up to coincide with the ILA effort. March 1st is a Friday. If I left soon after work, I could be in downtown Chicago at around 5 or 6pm. We could meet at a nice pub or something for a casual atmosphere. For all the people that voted Chicago, please speak up and let me know if March 1st is do-able.

YES!! Another vote has come in for Chicago. Now we just need to plan the event. I sent a message to all of you who voted in this thread and live nearby. Please respond! Or post in this thread. My first thought is to hold the get-together on March 1st - World Future Day. If that does not work for anyone, then we can try a different date. It will be pretty simple. All you have to do is come to the party!

Well, now we are up to 6 people voting for Chicago, yet no one has responded by PM or here in the thread as to when or where we should meet up. I can only keep March 1st open as an option for another day or so, then we will have to work on a different option.

I'm one of the six voters I think, I got your pm. I actually live in Delaware, but being in the general vicinity of the Cryonics Institute and having a nice fuel efficient civic, I'd like to make the trip out to Chicago and visit CI. I would start an attraction list and carpool for your group to go on activities as a kick off. Are there any other companies in or near Chicago than have anything to do with indefinite life extension? How can you generate more interest in attracting people to Chicago?

This topic has just given me an entrepreneurial idea that is pretty ripe. We should form an entrepreneur group throughout the LongeCity organization. I know you and I have posted about a credit union and some other ideas. I think I've completely lost interest in any kind of graphic design though... just don't have the spark for it anymore.

Another one of the six voters here (did not know the vote was for a small local get together). Just sent Mind a PM. Live in FL but as a fellow entrepreneur (company owner and event/graphics specialist in a niche area - some measurable spark left), very interested in continued dialogue and a possible meetup arrangement on a slightly bigger scale. I travel to Chicago on occasion and would happily plan a trip up for the right situation.

Cryonicsculture, I like your idea about forming a "entrepreneurial group" of synergistic, serious-minded individuals especially in the interest of organizing a possible 'mini conference' or structured production.

I've been silent since becoming a member due primarily to the fact that I'm still in research mode (preferring to try and be somewhat researched and educated before contributing) mining through the massive amount of information out there to assemble an organized, comprehensive lifestyle/regimen (years in the making). I would give anything to shift work efforts to a field that consumes so much of my time and energy with research and personal experimentation (to which I commonly refer as my full time hobby).

I have been lurking on this forum for quite some time.

Just registered today.

I would be interested in attending this meet up.

I'm 24 and new to all this.

I live in Chicago and would be available most saturdays and sundays.

I can't think of any off the top of my head, lived here for 18 years.

But seriously I'm a pretty cool guy and I'd like to go to this meetup.

A little about myself so I'm not just a random person from Chicago.

I majored in neurobiology at Uiowa studied in labs specializing in synaptic homeostasis and migraine headaches, worked on electrophysiology and molecular biology.

Applying to grad school for neurobiology, 1st interview Monday at Loyola U.

Supplement addict since high school.

I am always tweaking my regimen, never take the same 2 things daily, taking a different dose about once every 3 hours depending on what I feel like. My theory is that throwing different shit at your cells is better than the same regimen day in and day out.

I've got bottles of LE Omega 3, LE Mix which I cut with some cheap multivitamin because I ain't made of money, LE Curcumin, LE Reishi, LE Pomegranate, LE CR mimetic, LE Milk Thistle, LE CLA, LE Fucoxanthin, LE Green Tea Extract, LE Gingko, LE cognitex, LE Mitochondrial Optimizer, LE Green Coffee, LE Neuromag, Butchers broom, LE Ashwaganda, and LE L-theanine.

Melatonin has been a staple since I was 17.

I take, LE Cardiopeak, Ubiquinol and omegas 3's before I do cardio too.

Would like to start my own lab once I get a phd in about 6 years specializing in Cryonics ( I think I can make a real dent on neuropreservation and it's the best bet for indefinite life span at this point in time). I'd like to develop methods for the preservation of each specific cell type, be it microglia, astroglia, oligodendrocyte, that can be applied holistically to preserve the different tissues and then ultimately the entire organ that is the brain. I'm still working on reading the science behind cryonics so that was just a thought! It'll take some time we can do it in the next 50 years.

I like studying aging too obviously but neuro clearly comes 1st as it's only the early 21st century.

Also any advice on cryonics programs at grad schools would be greatly appreciated.

Cool well hope I can make it to this meetup!

Hi all. I can participate and contribute my share of any cost. I'm in Evanston (near Northwestern University).

One probably can't go wrong with Whole Foods at 1550 North Kingsbury in Lincoln Park area of Chicago (near North Avenue). It's the largest Whole Foods I've ever seen and is probably as large as a small-size football stadium. It even has a bar (wine, beer). It's near mass transit but also has parking for anyone driving. It might be possible to contact the store to reserve a room for a private event.

Check Google Streetview to see the location. Please note, that this location is not in the heart of downtown Chicago (loop area, etc.). It's North side.

Hi Bree,

I think the the first step would be to get a forum going for entrepreneurs and have a sticky for posting availability, skillsets, experience, and self SWOTs. From there we could actually start to determine what ideas we could do best with our available skill sets, experience and networks and concentrate on them without getting side tracked.

I'd like to keep the discussion part of this meetup topic also (assuming Mind doesn't mind) as I think an open forum for entrepreneurs at the Chicago event would be an added attraction and we might even get some ent's from established indefinite life extension (ILE) ventures to join in and even mentor us.

Mind, you're a moderator, who would I have to talk to about getting an entrepreneur's classifieds forum? Would anyone else like to see this?

Let's see how well google's notifications are doing:
Rev Genetics Anthony Leora
Vaughter Wellness Sara Vaughter

Can anyone else think of anyone who might be interested?

Great to hear from you NEXT. You've got some very interesting skills and are certainly an attraction. I imagine there are others, specifically those associated with CI that would be interested in attending and could bring additional networks to attendance. We might even see some from Phoenix. Does anyone know anyone at CI? Do they have a membership forum? Alcor does, I haven't signed up for either yet. Is there a community bulletin board? Are there any colleges who could lend a non student group a meeting room for a meeting open to their students and faculty?

Prophets, Whole Foods looks like a good place to find like minded people who are concerned about their health now and will be in the future. It looks like they are a chain with lots of stores. Do they have a community bulletin board? What other schools are in the area, it would be great if we could inspire more students and faculty to take up the cause for ILE. They could become invaluable team members.

What kind of topics could we have to interest people and market the ILE lifestyle? How do we define the lifestyle and envision it for others? I know both CI and Alcor give talks and often target these demographics. Has anyone been to one of their meetings?

Now we are talking!

Whole Foods looks nice, although I would've never figured it as a good meeting spot. If they have a private meeting area/room or a place where people can hang out, then I think it would be a fine location.

Talk to Lister about a business/entrepreneurs forum. He wants to develop this idea. For budding entrepreneurs out there, here are the basics: Risk ALL of your capital (and most times some from your friends and family), work most of your waking hours on your idea, then succeed 1 out of 10 times.

As far as cost goes, LongeCity was providing $400 dollar stipends for local meet-ups last year, and I am sure we can get that again this year. That would probably be enough for some nice catered food (maybe right from Whole Foods, if we are there) and wine/drinks.
