Our eye sight is precious. So why are viterous floaters being ignored by the medical community?
On behalf of the Degenerative Viterous Syndrome (DVS) community across the world, we are raising awareness about our medical condition, and we are seeking sponsors and organizations to fund and research for a safe treatment to cure vitreous floaters in the eye.
Millions of people across the world are suffering from vitreous floaters and our vision is negatively impacted. Unfortunately to date, the medical community has not considered viterous floaters as a significant clinical problem, and has not contemplated finding a safe and reliable cure for this condition.
Vitreous floaters affect people of all ages, and to the sufferer, the condition feels far from benign or normal. To the sufferer, it is a disability that causes significant visual disturbance, and has a significant negative impact on the quality of life. Furthermore, the constant struggle to achieve adequate visual transparency impacts their emotional and physical resilience.
Some sufferers have had to give up their careers or studies due to this condition. Many sufferers are taking anti-depressants to cope with their visual disturbance on a daily basis. Sadly, a few sufferers have ended up commiting suicide due to lack of safe treatments for this condition.
The growing DVS sufferer communities on Facebook and other social media channels indicates that there is a huge demand across the world to find safe and effective treatments for DVS (a.k.a viterous eye floaters). We have provided links to various DVS communities and their petitions at the end of this letter. These communities and petitions have been ongoing for several years with no support from the medical community. Millions of dollars are being used to fund research for anti-ageing treatments and other conditions. However, we find ourselves lacking funds and attention about a serious medical condition impacting our eye sight.
Currently DVS sufferers with clinically bothersome floaters have limited treatment options: eye drops, yttrium-aluminum-garnet (YAG) laser, or vitrectomy. Eye drops have never been scientifically shown to be effective. Conflicting results and risks have been reported with the YAG laser. Furthermore, vitreous opacities close to the lens or retina cannot be safely treated by the YAG laser. Although floaters can be cured by vitrectomy, this procedure is highly invasive, and has serious risks to eye sight during or after surgery such as retinal tears, retinal detachments, cataracts, glaucoma, hyptony, wavy vision, infection and a long list of other side effects. Patients who chose to take YAG laser or vitrectomy treatments liken them to a gamble. Either it works and they move on or there are complications during treatment and their eye sight worsens. Why are patients having to take such a gamble in search for a treatment for eye floaters?
The DVS communities across the world are currently collaborating with the Eye on Vision Foundation and working together to raise funds towards research for a non-invasive and safe treatment for vitreous eye floaters (https://www.gofundme.com/floaters).
The Eye On Vision Foundation has been successful in funding and setting up the first research project on visual snow in which they work together with doctors from the University of Munich, Germany (https://www.gofundme.com/visual-snow). We are very eager to do the same for vitreous eye floaters.
To accomplish this, we are looking for pharmaceutical companies and research organizations who would be interested in undertaking research on DVS and finding a safe and non-invasive procedure to treat vitreous eye floaters. We also need sponsors from across the world to provide funding for this important research.
We would like to know if your organization is interested in performing this type of research and/or sponsor funding towards research. If your organization is interested in this cause to help millions of people across the world better their eye sight, perhaps we could further discuss the possibilities of working together.
We dream of a world in which vitreous floaters are taken seriously and we no longer have to see through the cob webs, black dots and clouds obscuring our vision on a daily basis.
We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we would be delighted to work together with you.
