Hi everybody, I'm posting because I have a libido issue that is really beginning to get to me.

I am male 43 from the UK. I have had epilepsy since I was 13 and have been taking carbamazepine for this (1000mg total each day). I have been vitamin D and B12 deficient for a few years. My vitamin D I take 30,000iu of D3 for and my B12 I have an injection of 5000mcg each 90 days.

OK where do I begin? Well I'm 183cm (6 feet) and weight 97kg (213lbs (15 stone)). I have a 34" waist so I'm not fat just a bit overweight, however since January I have lost about 2 stone in weight. I eat about 1800 - 2200 calories a day.

In August 2015 I was under a huge amount of stress with various issues but the worst was the death of a very close friend after months of caring for them.

I noticed a definite issue with regard to libido (the actual 'want' to have sex) about 4 months ago. Not sure if it's relevant but I also struggle to imagine sexual activities. Anyway, I went to my GP and they basically ran a testosterone test which came up I was 8.02 on a scale from 8-30 (apparently). A month later I was retested and was 16 and the latest test shows I am under 10 again. I can't stay asleep, waking at least 4 times a night, usually at 3, 4:40, 5:30 and around 6. Sometimes 7:45 too.

I walk around an hour a day usually racking up 14,000 steps by 8pm. I lift weights very lightly, as I have no motivation.

I am currently awaiting an endocrine appointment, in 10 days or so which could be for thyroid as it is the Dr's speciality. I have been checked for diabeties and everything was ok. I recently had a severe skin condition which caused acne and I was on oxytetracycline for over a year, which I have since taken myself off about 2 months ago. I am also taking fexofenadine and loratadine each night for systemic itchy skin which the Dr doesn't seem to think is important enough to look into rather than just giving me antihistamines.

I have been feeling fairly down lately like there is no joy in anything. I have taken (and still do) DLPA 1500mg daily, that seems to give me a better outlook and make me feel happier. I take it with a b complex on an empty stomach.

I also take:

OMega 3 (4x 1000mg)

Vitamin C (2000mg)

Magnesium Biglysinate (2000mg)

Centrum men multi vitamin (1 of)

Super K from life extension (2x)

Recently I have also had:

5-htp - did nothing for my sleep

Melatoning 3mg did nothing for my sleep

Theanine 200mg (sometimes x2) did nothing for my sleep or stress levels

Any insight would be amazing as I am literally miserable now. Oh I do have a gf too.

I am currently not taking anything other than Vitamin D, B12, multivits, B complex, DLPA and sometimes choline.

I have tried to get my GP to order a full hormone and amino acid profile but they will only do the testosterone and I can't afford to get them done myself as I am unemployed.

I look forward to any help you guys can give, I really need this issue to be sorted out as before this issue I was a very sexual person and I just don't feel like I am me anymore because of it.

Oh probably worth noting that if I take cialis everything works fine mechanically, well about 75% - 80% hard, so long as I maintain contact, my erection deflates very fast without any input, say around 30-45 seconds. That is with the cialis too. I think it is all either emotion or mental based, not sure if GABA depletion has a role here because of sleep and the huge amounts of stress?? I often grind my teeth and rarely relax. When I do relax I feel on edge because it's not a natural state for me. However I have no idea what I am on about and just piecing things together from other peoples experiences.

I have some DHEA 25mg to try but havent because of all of the warnings about raising estrogen.

Thank you all so much in advance.

I feel for you know that feeling. There are supplements that can help support healthy testosterone if that even is whats causing it, however If you have a good Dr. doing blood work I would speak with him considering your levels and if test replacement is something you believe will help.

I found weight resistant training ( lifting don't skip legs!) for about a month got my labido back.  I know its extremely hard to exercise when you have no motivation, however this isn't a  case of chicken and the egg.  If you wait for motivation to come to exercise you might be old, grey, and your tools certainly won't want to work then.

Try picking a time you can commit to for at least 4 days out of the week. Starting with even 10 min a day if that all you have in you,  and slowly  work your way up. Best of luck

I hope things get better soon.

You mention that the DLPA is helping, so I am a little reluctant to post this. If I were taking DLPA, and was having any trouble sleeping, grinding teeth or inability to relax, I would discontinue that right away. That 1500 mg is also higher than I have taken it except for a very short time periods. Since you have 10 days until you see the Endocrinologist, that will give your body time to adjust. I would not start anything new until after the visit.

I would write everything symptom wise which could be related to hormones that is happening, and take it with you. Tell them that you are so scared that you are even thinking of taking DHEA. (That might motivate them to run a test of DHEA, and other hormones) .I do not know how it is in the U.K., but here (U.S.) once one gets to an Endocrinologist, the GP has no say in what they test for hormone wise. It is what they do. Generally a GP would not go against any prescriptions ordered by the Endocrinologist.
