I don't get why there is so much hostility towards supplements but even more so towards longevity. A lot of them seem more concerned with losing weight and even mentioning anti aging or supplements gets people up in a tizzy about it. I posted recently in the fasting subreddit and got blasted by some socialist about how I shouldn't be giving people my money and taking supplements and to "stop being a pussy and just stop eating", blah blah blah. I see this on our board as well, which is utterly ironic. What's the big freaking deal? Seems hugely money centric, like fasting for them is all about anti-capitalism and consumerism. Sorry but that's not my schtick. I'm pro market, but that's not what it's about for me, though saving money is a nice side effect, my main goal is to get the most bang for my buck out of the outright sacrifice of pleasure and enjoyment of life I invest into my health. I love food. I love it more than anything. But if I have to not eat for 5 days then I want the most out of that horrible 120 hours spent in deprivation. I find it annoying as hell that the people into fasting are so hostile about this and make blanket statements about supplements and claim there's no evidence for what I'm taking. If there were no evidence I wouldn't take it, I'm taking it (or interested in taking it) because there *is* some evidence.
Can I just spend my money where I like and maybe people could shut up about consumerism and radical, overgeneralizing skepticism of everything and either chime in with advice or leave me the hell alone? Surely I'm not alone in my desires. This is just all the more reason why nobody likes talking about fasting, even with other people who do it. Super frustrating. So I take EGCG, because there's some in vivo evidence that it stimulates autophagy in mice, so I take ALCAR because there's human evidence for the same and more. So we wanna take NR or NMN, so what? Stop giving people a hard time about it.
I wanna know if fasting and NR could go hand in hand, even theoretically, not whether I should take supplements or not.
