Hello All,

I hope everyone is staying safe and well.

I am 50 yo F who has lived with brain fog most of her life.  Only it wasn't until recently that I had a name for what it was... I thought it was depression or brain damage of some sort.  I have been on Prozac and Zoloft for years - with some Adderall in there too.   Yet, none of which helped my brain fog; inability to concentrate, struggle to find words, hard time forming sentences, poor memory recall, memory is getting a lot worse too and difficulty / slow processing and learning abilities.  Yet, if you were to meet me you would think I was smart and together.  I've learned to compensate.   Lately, I have started to slur my words and/or merge them together to make up new words.

As I said, I always thought this was related to brain health - and it may be.  I have been to two neurologists who dismissed me as 'just getting old like the rest of us' but I know it's more than that.  Here is why:

1. Every once in a while throughout life I would have a 'clear' day.  Where my wit was sharp, memory was great, energy and brain speed consistent, ability to speak clearly and concisely were sharp and no challenges with sentence structure.  I was able to process new info.   My memory was awesome - I could recall things I didn't even know I knew.  (The next day, I would return to my foggy self and stay there)

2. When I tried fish oil for the first time I reached the same level of clarity as above in bullet point #1 - and it lasted for 3 weeks!  It was a new life for me.  Then ...gone.

3. I accidentally doubled up on my Zoloft one day (took 400mg's) and all the happiness of above in bullet point #1 were back and stayed - for 3 weeks!  Then.....gone.

4. I knew I was on to something so I kept searching (that's how I found you guys many years ago), and I discovered Holy Basil from New Chapter.  ALL the bene's of above in bullet point #1 were back.... for three weeks.    Then....gone.

5. I tried other brands of fish oil and holy basil and nothing brought me back to that place where I was functioning at my apparent ability.

6.  I started with the Bulletproof diet coffee - where you add butter to the coffee - and I mostly returned to the benefits outlined  above in bullet point #1 - not at the same force as before but it was still a lot better - only it lasted a few weeks and then.....gone.

7.  C0Q10 from Life Extension delivered the benefits as above in bullet point #1 for three weeks - and then gone.

I feel like I have tried everything (Bacopa, rhodiola, ashwaghanda, happy smart, etc) and it either doesn't work or it stops working after 3 weeks.   I am starting to suspect this may be part brain, but more CNS.   I am trying to identify the mechanism found in the aforementioned things that have worked to try and replicate them, find something else with that base line to try and also identify WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME!?

I've been to many Dr's and they all say the same thing, "There is nothing wrong, it's on your head"  And it is very depressing and getting worse in an anxiety sense knowing I am living at 1/4 of my ability.  Does anyone have ANY IDEAS?  Please?

I presently take Zoloft at 100 mg's, I eat amazingly well and work out.  Thank you in advance for your hopeful help.

What do you mean?  The pharmaceutical product?   Are you saying it's the solution or the problem source?

Do you have any of the other symptoms of myalgic encephalomyelitis / chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS)? ME/CFS symptoms include constant brain fog, but also fatigue, unrefreshing sleep, emotional sensitivity (susceptible to emotional stress), blunted emotions, chronic sore throat, headaches, and many other symptoms?

ME/CFS patients often find high dose B12 injections help the brain fog. As an alternative to injections, you can use transdermal B12 oils. These provide a systemic dose of B12 comparable to injection. Oral B12 tablets will not do much, as very little B12 is absorbed orally.

Piracetam is also helpful for countering the brain fog of ME/CFS.

Interesting.

I looked up the product and no wonder its not approved in the US.

The FDA likely can't make as much money on it as they can other drugs for Alzheimer or otherwise.

Question is - does it have any preventative benefit? and/or can it be used for overall brain health.

Chris
