I used to eat beef 3-4 times a day and feel amazing. These days whenever i include beef just in my breakfast, i consistently wake up either 2 or 4 hours after falling asleep, and feel very groggy the next day. I'm not entirely sure what the issue is.

I have no issues eating a kilogram of chicken or pork per day. But even just a piece of red meat, and i will not be sleeping well that day. What's causing this issue?

Do you think it might have to do with a higher amount of omega 3 in grass-fed beef? I know more than 1 person whose sleep is affected by a higher omega 3 intake.

I'm not sure. I never considered grass fed beef to be a high enough omega 3 source to be relevant.

Funny that you mentioned omega 3-s though -- it's been some time since i made the post and I've gathered a few months worth of sleep duration, food and supplement data on myself. The omega 3-s definitely made my sleep quality worse when taking them near bedtime.

Admittedly i dosed them quite generously as well: 2g EPA+DHA combined, 3 times a day, for a total of 6 grams in TG form. Doing 3g, 2 times a day away from bedtime resulted in about an hour or two more sleep for me. I did stop taking them completely, but unfortunately did it while dieting with no starchy carbs, which for me was another sleep killer. I also suspect this dose of fish oil was the reason i had extreme sensitivity to high histamine foods, but it'll take some time to confirm that.

When I quickly looked it up earlier today apparently a 3.5 ounce of grass fed beef can contain almost double what normal beef has. Normal beef is 80 mg and grass fed is 160 mg. you can add that up, 160 mg x 4, that's about 640 mg omega 3. Not much, but from the individuals I've spoken with who had the issue, even doses that low would cause a negative effect. Mind you, that was from supplements, and, I do wonder about histamine vs omega reaction as well. Something in fish oil pills fucked with me, in ways that omega 3 in general doesn't. Hell, even fish itself doesn't fuck with me like that [unless I just wasn't paying attention and/or unless it does that only if I'm taking a certain amount daily].
