Science says NR is better than NMN. Don’t bet on NR patents expiring anytime soon. The Grace NRCL crystal patents have more than 20 years left.

Only small amount of NMN and NR gets converted to NAD+ directly. But NMN and NR significantly increases endogenous NAD+ synthesis.

ChatGPT says this is true:

Yes, the statement is generally accurate based on current scientific understanding. Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) and nicotinamide riboside (NR) are precursors of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+), meaning they can be converted into NAD+ in the body. However, the direct conversion of NMN and NR to NAD+ is thought to be a relatively small portion of their overall impact on cellular NAD+ levels.

The main mechanism through which NMN and NR boost NAD+ levels is by serving as substrates in the NAD+ salvage pathway. This pathway involves a series of enzymatic reactions that ultimately lead to the production of NAD+ from precursors like NMN and NR. The key idea is that NMN and NR provide the building blocks or ingredients that the body needs to make more NAD+.

So, while only a small amount of NMN and NR might be directly converted into NAD+, their significant role lies in supporting the cellular machinery responsible for NAD+ synthesis. This can have a broader impact on NAD+ levels in various tissues and contribute to the regulation of processes involved in energy metabolism, DNA repair, and other cellular functions.

It's important to note that research in this area is ongoing, and the understanding of the precise mechanisms and effects of NMN and NR supplementation is continually evolving. As with any supplementation, it's advisable to consult with a healthcare professional for personalized advice and to stay informed about the latest scientific developments.
