There's a connection between quicker onset + excessive REM sleep phases w vivid dreaming in people with depression. a theory behind why SSRIs might work in some people is the impact it has on REM reduction.

If you've experimented with polyphasic sleep for waking up fresher with less exhaustion, what has been your experience?

I tried it years ago for about 10 days and couldn’t take it anymore due to feeling like a zombie. I have other sleep/wake issues though so my experience is likely not representative of others.
