Good day,
I am extremely concerned about experiencing a thunderclap headache last night (aka orgasmic headache). This has not been my first and is in fact my 3rd in the past 2 weeks. Lasts night headache was particularly intense and I could feel an extremely sharp pain at the back right of my head. It did not dissipate as this has done previously and stayed with me for 3-4 hours. It disappeared after taking 2 paracetamol. After reading up on primary headache and subarachnoid hemorrhage, I am concerned. I have felt out of sorts today but this could be because I barely slept as well as the worry that this may be something bigger. The only reason I did not rush off to the Dr is because I am changing jobs and medical aid in 3 weeks time. I am concerned that if it’s serious my new medical aid won’t take me on and there is no option to remain on my existing medical aid as it is a company one.
I am not experiencing any nausea or any other symptoms, besides for the tenderness in my head if I exert myself.

Does anyone have any insights on this type of situation or any thoughts to offer in this regard.

Much appreciated, thank you.

I must add that I am extremely fit. I have high cholesterol (hereditary) and have a good BMI. I take 20mg statin for cholesterol.

Fit/muscles does not mean healthy. Do you take steroids? They are harsh on the body. I always suggest essential nutrients like vitamins (vitamin c) and minerals (like zinc) for health as they are crucial for the body. I have also experienced what you are talking about and what helped me were B vitamins. I think it has to do with Central nervous system dysfunction and B vitamins are very beneficial for that. I take high dose sublingual B vitamins by Solgar and it helps. I would avoid paracetamol/drugs as I think it does worse in the long run, and the pain is a signal that something is wrong so you can fix it before it gets worse. paracetamol  might take away the pain but your body will have to work harder to get rid of the drug at the expense of your health since all drugs are damaging to some degree when ingested. I know this specific drug is heavy on the liver, so while your liver is trying to rid off paracetamol instead, during that time it could have been trying to fight off whatever it is you have. So you could be shortening your time for when it gets worse.

Are you a coffee drinker, or any caffeinated beverage user? Many years ago, when I drink far more caffeine than currently, this was a problems I confronted. Weird, but easily solved, in my case, once the root of the problem was determined.

Thank you for your reply. I have never taken steroids and am generally healthy. I will most definitely look into B & C vitamins as well as Zinc. I don’t often take painkillers, only when I have common headaches, which are not often. In this case the pain was unbearable and it was the only painkiller I had in the house. Will take the advice on paracetamol for the future. Have your thunderclap headaches reoccurred? I am concerned that they are more serious and could lead to bleeding on the brain or a stroke. I appreciate your feedback. Thank you.

Yes but they are more easy to deal with not as bad, I can handle them now.  Always there but less pain when it gets worse.

I also wanna add on to my previous comment you seem to live in South Africa and if you have light skin you will sweat more because of the heat than darker skinned people which could make you lose more B vitamins (water soluble) and lead to diseases. Maybe you also need to drink more water. Or maybe you need to change your diet to something more suitable for you.
