Cool, I was wondering what you took. Good stuff.

Have you thought about adding more vit D or Vit C?

I hadn't thought about adding more vitamin D. I eat a fair amount of fat free cottage cheese, some fat free milk, and get some in my multi. I'm curious why you ask.

I have taken extra vitamin c in the past. I've read quite a few studies which showed that eating foods rich in vitamin C had a benefit, but the supplemented C did not. This lead me to believe we probably only need moderate amount but taken frequently or we need to get it from food (either better absorption or the food contains other nutrients).

I asked because it looks like you have a lot of the bases covered. I have personally found it hard to create a stack with enough cancer preventatives. I saw you had quite a few things that may be used for this purpose, as well as others. I found that vit D and adaptogens such as rhodiola or ashwagandha were worth their while in this regard, and thought to drop a comment.

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. I'll do some more research on the optimal dosage (and form) of Vitamin D.

You have me thinking again about vitamin C since it is so cheap. Maybe I could add a bit of bulk vitamin C to my green tea which I sip all day. I'd be interested in hearing your views on vitamin C. Perhaps I should just do a search?

I updated my list to show the breakdown of cost per month and included the brand (BAC = Beyond A Century). Damn fish oil is expensive.

Cnorwood19, how old are you? Is the 19 in your nickname your age? If so, providing you do not have any genetic predispositions, would cancer preventatives be the best choice? Considering that cancer is generally something that occurs over time and in the later decades, shouldn't you be more concerned about antioxidants to preserve cell integrity?

health nutty, have you considered

Nature's Way, Resveratrol Synergistic Formula
containing:
Red Wine Extract 30% Polyphenols (60 mg) 200 mg
Red Wine Powder 200 mg
Japanese Knotweed 50% Resveratrol (75 mg) 150 mg
Grape Seed Extract 95% Polyphenols (95 mg) 100 mg

as opposed to

BAC Resveratrol Complex @ $3.10
10mg trans-resveratrol 3x daily
50mg activin grape seed 3x daily

I am 25.

Besides nutrition, the drugs/supplements I take that have anti-cancer properties are Rala-carnitine, melatonin, ashwagandha, green tea, Rhodiola. Nutrition and lifestyle choices are a big factor. All these "anti-cancer" supplements, as well as lifestyle factors, have a lot of other health and enhanced quality of life properties. It has yet to be an issue that I have to choose between anti-cancer and other health benefits. I guess the determining factor, if I had to choose, would be the efficacy of the two supplements I would have to choose between.

I dont want to hijack the thread, so if you have any comments or suggestions reply here: http://www.imminst.o...=238&t=11431&s=

Cost is US$10 for 30 day supply. The resveratrol content is 15-fold, grape seed extract 2-fold, plus you are also getting the red wine extract as well. Nature's way is a premier company and is often used as the raw matherial for many medical research papers. Clinically speaking, Nature's way is one of the leading supplement companies.

I'm considering adding Curcumin as well.

I'm considering dropping the spirulina or lowering the dosage for price reasons.

I'm very interested in CoQ10, Idebenone, Carnosine, and more fruit extracts but I can't rationalize the price.

I'm also going to switch from vitamine shop aged garlic to kyolic aged garlic from iherb because it is actually cheaper (both are manufactured by same company).

How did you choose the multivitamin you are taking? Seems like the general consensus here is that Ortho-Core is the best, but there's a bazillion multi's out there.

Background
I was originally taking Source Natural's Life Force until I found some information here on bioprene that made me switch (better safe than sorry).
I switched to a decent bioprene free one I could find at a local vitamin shoppe (a 3 day formula).
Now I'm taking SuperNutritionUSA Perfect Blend (a four a day formula).

I like ortho-core a lot. It probably is the best, they have a lot of research behind it. I'm annoyed that the b vitamin amounts are so low. If I was going to take it I would have to buy a high quality b-vitamin as well. If I'm going to shell out that kind of cash for a multi, it had better be perfect.

The most important thing for a multivitamin (for me) is to have multiple pills so I can take one with every meal. Water soluble vitamins are often gone after 3-5 hours, so you need a consistent supply to keep levels high. Also absorption is better if the vitamins are spread throughout the day.

So my criteria was:
1) 3 a day or more
2) No bioprene
3) No niacinamide
4) Iron-free
5) Decent company and price

Timed release Complete Vitamin B-Complex
$9.99

(The price is awesome and it has nicotinic acid instead of niacinimide)

Shadowrun,

Thanks for the info. If I decide to go the ortho-core route I'll definately keep that in mind.

Hi HN

Why did you drop Cissus, and indeed what were you taking it for in the first place, Joint/tendonitis? It's dubious anabolic properties? Fun? ;)

I was taking it to speed some tendon damage I had done twisting my ankle. It has some other interesting properties but is not well researched enough to include all the time:

"Eight-week use of the Cissus formulation significantly reduced plasma total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol in the three treatment groups and increased HDL cholesterol in the two obese groups by 50.5 % and 43.0%"

Do you feel it actually helped over and above rest and your other supplements?

Despite the rave reviews on the BB forums for tendon repair, I can't say I noticed anything out of the ordinary. As far as the other properties, its a big question mark since I don't get regular blood work.

If inflammation persists, try MSM cream and pills. I started with the cream and it reduced inflammation when ibuprofen horse pills couldn't. Then I added capsules and got a sort of detox response. (I don't know what else to call it... Herxing maybe?) The inflammation got worse for a day and then went away altogether.

Thanks for the info krillin. The acute injury is long gone, however the ankle still doesn't feel 100% Don't get me wrong I can still run, sprint, play sports on it. Sometimes it just gets sore still almost a year later. I wasn't really expecting cissus to do anything, but I was willing to give it a shot.
